Apple Love Divination
To find out the initial of your future lover's name, peel an apple in one long, continuous strip and then toss the peel over your left shoulder. Whichever letter of the alphabet it forms will be the initial.
Twist the stem of an apple as you recite the letters of the alphabet and whichever letter you are on when the stem comes off will be the initial of your future lover's name. (If you reach the end of the alphabet, begin again at the letter A.)
To see the image of future husbands, medieval maidens would stand in front of a mirror with an apple, slice it into nine pieces, and impale each piece on the point of a knife, holding it over their left shoulders.
To find out who your future husband will be, take a bunch of apples and write the name of a potential suitor on each one. Place the apples over a blazing fire, and the person whose name is on the apple which pops first will be the one you will marry.
According to an old folk custom in Austria, if an apple cut on Saint Thomas's Eve (December 20) contains an even number of seeds, it indicates a wedding. If one of the seeds is cut in half, it foretells a troubled marriage. It two seeds are cut, it is an omen of widowhood.
