Meditation to the Fay
You are standing at the edge of a forest of tall trees. A dirt pathway winds through the trees until it disappears from sight in the dim sunlight that filters through the thick branches. You hear the faint sound of a flute and begin to make your way down the path into the forest. You hear the call of birds all around you.
In a short time, you reach a fern-filled glen with a small stream running through it. It is very sunny as you stand at the edge of the glen and look across at another forest, just like the one you just went through. Suddenly everything is quiet. The birds are silent; the soft lilt of the flute has stopped. You hear the sound of footsteps behind you. You turn quickly and find yourself facing a tall Fay. He is dressed in a tunic and trousers in shades of green. He has a bow slung over his shoulder and a long sword at his side. His long black hair is tied at the back of his neck with a strip of leather. His slightly tilted green eyes watch you closely, as if he can see straight into your mind and thoughts.
"What do you seek in this forest?" the Fay finally asks.
You tell him that you want to meet the Fay and learn from them: "I am a warrior and prince of this clan." he says. "Come with me, and I will show you safely through our kingdom."
The tall Fay leads you across the stream on a series of stepping stones. Within minutes he takes you through a short section of the next forest. Before you are tall cliffs with Fay houses and the Schools of learning built of crystal and natural materials right up the sides of the cliffs. Under the edges of the trees surrounding this palace of the king and queen and their courtiers stand more rustic, but still elaborate houses where many of the Fay live.
He takes you into the palace to meet his parents, the king and queen. They talk to you for several minutes about the importance of bringing the knowledge of the existence of Fay and Small Folk back into the human world. The king emphasizes the need for caution when sharing this information, lest you bring harm to yourself.
The prince then takes you to one of the schools, where you talk to a few of the teachers. You stop at the kennels where the bound masters are letting very young faery pups play in the sunshine. Their white coats shine in the sun; their ears and eyes contrast as blood red.
From there, the Fay takes you to a meditation cave inside cliffs. The inside of this cave is completely lined with all colors of natural crystals. There are padded benches against the walls. Lanterns hang in four locations, signifying the four directions and the four elements. Between two lanterns, half in the shadows sit a man and a woman, both dressed in white robes with colored insignia embroidered on one shoulder.
"Elders." the Prince says, bowing in front of them, "this is a human traveler in Faery Land. This human is a believer in the Fay and the Small Folk and is here to learn more about us."
'This is permissible," answers the male Fay. "You may ask us two questions that have importance in your life."
You ask the questions and listen carefully to the answers, which may be in riddles or prophetic language instead of being straightforward. The faeries rarely give a straight answer to a human, as they like to make us think about and reason out the answer.
"We must go now," the prince says. He motions toward the cave entrance.
You walk ahead of him, and as you step outside, you find yourself back in your physical body. Now is a good time to write down the answers you received from the elders so you can think about them.
