Plants in Magic
Plants can be anything from flowers, herbs and sticks. By using these items you add a bit of nature into your magic, and the magic
That they add is completely natural. By using certain plants you can extract certain proprties to make a spell even more complete. Some plants are linked to certain deities and heavenly bodies, which when used wisely can have great effects on a spell.

The magic that a plant contains can come from the scent and colour of its bloom or even the time of year that the plant grows. The same goes with herbs, their colour and scent makes them extremely useful in spells. Their natural ingredients mean that you use less synthetic materials, and more of what mother earth produces for us.

Commonly Used Herbs

Deadly Nightshade (atropa belladonna) - This plant must not be eaten as it is highly poisonous. Though this flower, and its fruits can be used to help with contact the astral plane, be this through astral projection itself or divination.

Fennel (foeniculum) - Fennel, has been used for protection for a long time. It used to be hung from the door to protect the household from fire and evil.

Lobelia (lobelia urens) - This herb has quite a few uses. It can be added to a spell bag to dispel nighmares and even help the user
Dream of a future lover. It was also used to stop heavy storms, it would have been thrown towards the storm to stop it getting too close.

Mistletoe (viscum album) - This is another protective herb that was used to protect the home during the cold months. It was also used to open locks of different forms. In the past, it was put in a babies bed to protect it from fairies.

Orchis (orchis masculata) - It can be used for love spells and to make attraction spells stronger. The flowering stem is used to help love grow and become more passionate, while the dying stem can be used to lessen very strong passion.

Plantin (plantago major) - Spells to find honesty, or make you more honest might benefit from the inclusion of plantin.

Rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis) - This herb can be hung outside the house, by the door to deter thieves. Rosemary can be used to achieve success and can be used to cleanse and area ready for a magical working.

Spearmint (mentha spicata) - Used in sleep related spells it can destroy nightmares and also protect the bearer from physical harm during sleep. It can also be used to clear the mind ready for any magical endeavor.

St. John's Wort (hypericum perforatum) - Uses for this herb include powerful protection from evil, demons and storms. Like Rosemary, it can be used to cleanse the room of a house.

Thyme (thymus vulgaris) - When worn it can produce courage and strength, and would be a good addition in such spells. Thyme can also be used in a spell to attract luck.

Valerian (valeriana officinalis) - This plant can be used to aid love spells and to help find true love for the caster. It was also
Worn by good witches to protect themselves from evil witches and other evil influences.

Vervain (verbena officinalis) - Druids use this herb a lot for their rituals. It is another protective herb.

Wormwood (artemisia absinthium) - Yet another protective herb it was also used in love spells. Also, if this herb was used or burnt in a graveyard, it was said that the desired spirits would make contact with the caster or user.

Yarrow (achillea millefolium) - Putting this one the bed of a newly handfasted couple would ensure a long and happy partnership, for at least seven years. Yarrow was also used to attract true friends that the person could rely on.

Commonly Used Flowers

Althea (althea officinalis) - Protective, it can also be used to attract good and protective spirits. Psychic work can also be aided

Betony (stachys officinalis) - Another sleep helping plant that can protect the user from nightmares, it was also used to attract luck and help with many problems. It can be used to help purify a person and making new starts when burnt in a ritual.

Borage (borago officinalis) - It is believed that this plant can fight off tiredness and lathargy, as well as protect the user from
Natural dangers, thus it was popular with travellers of old. Drinking a tea of this will aid meditation, and can be used in magical ways to promote psychic abilities for a period of time.

Burdock (arctium lappa) - This plant can be used to protect the house, or burnt for general protection. This is an all over
protective herb and can be hung from the door to help aid the house hold.

Buttercup (ranunculus acris) - Apart from being able to see if you like butter or not, it can be used for gaining things as well!

Chamomile (anthemis nobilis) - Uses of this plant include the removal of curses and illness. It can also be used to banish
negativity. The white flower can also be used to prosperity spells.

Chicory (chicorium intybus) - When picked in complete silence at the sunset of Litha, the picker would be instilled with peace and would become un-noticeable to many that walked past them for the rest of the night.

Chrysanthemum (chrysanthemum segetum) - A protective flower, it was also used to help someone pass from this life to the next with less pain and suffering.

Coltsfoot (tussilago farfara) - This plant can help the user with divination and finding the truth. The leaves are also used in spell
bags to promote peace and calm to the bearer.

Dandelion (taraxacum officinale) - Blowing the seed heads of a dandelion can be used to answer questions.

Dogwood (cornus florida) - Using this flower can help manifest your wishes.

Foxglove (digitalis purpurea) - Do not eat as it is toxic! This plant can be used to protect your home from extensive fairy action,
and the tricks that other spirits play.

Heather (calluna vulgaris) - Like the gypsies do, this plant can be used for protection when carried. But do not wear it at night if you do not want to meet a ghost.

Lilac (syringa vulgaris) - This flower will drive evil away form you and anyone near you, though it should be left outside the house so that it can do its work more effectively to the house.
