* Yule / Winter Solstice / Alban Arthan
December 21, 7:04 am EST

The winter solstice is one of the two times each year
that the Sun is at its farthest point from the equator
and appears to stand still. This year, this happens on
December 21 at 7:04 A.M. EST.

The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol, or "Sun,"
and stitium, or "stoppage." The days are now starting to get a
little longer every day.

Above timing in (EST) Eastern Standard Time, USA

" I heard the bells of Christmas Day,
Their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men. "

–Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(1807?882

Simple Family Yule Ritual

For a simple family ritual on Winter Solstice, you can pass around an
orange.
Each person peels off a portion of the rind, while thinking about one
thing in
their lives they would like to "peel away."

Once it's fully peeled, the orange is passed around again.
Each person eats a section, while thinking about one new wish or
intention for the new year.

And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?"

Alban Arthan

Winter Solstice, called in the Druid Tradition Alban Arthan
[the Light of Arthur]. This is the time of death and rebirth.
The sun appears to be abandoning us completely as the longest
night comes to us. Linking our own inner journey to the yearly cycle,
the words of the Druid ceremony ask "Cast away, O wo/man whatever
impedes the appearance of light." In darkness we throw on to the ground
the scraps of material we have been carrying that signify those things
which have been holding us back, and one lamp is lit from a flint and
raised up on the Druid's crook in the East. The year is reborn and a
new cycle begins, which will reach its peak at the time of the Midsummer
Solstice, before returning again to the place of death-and-birth.

I love it!
I was singing the words to the song based on the Longfellow poem :-) and just enjoying myself!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o' lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o?kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
And surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o?kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine ;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot,
Sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae paidl’d i' the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
And gie's a hand o?thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
For auld lang syne.

(repeat last chorus verse)

I love this song/poem. Robert Burns is one of my favorite poets.
