For a great many of my meditations, I utilize a garden as a
departure point. I've decided to make creating the garden a
meditation in itself to save time during other meditations as
some can get a little detailed.
Begin by seating yourself comfortably. I used to like to lie
down when I was meditating, but to keep sleepy intentions
from creeping in, sitting up really is a better idea. Be certain
your clothes are non-restricting as well, so as not to detract
from your deep state of relaxation.
Take a few deep, calming breaths. These are breaths you should
feel deep down in your toes. Expanding your chest, expanding
your stomach, reaching deep within to illuminate stress,
tension and negativity you need to rid yourself of. As you
exhale fully, push out all that tension in long streams of
darkness, sending them well away from you, to disappear
completely. Breathe in deeply, filling your lungs with the
golden light of the universe that heals and calms and sustains.
Repeat this a few times before settling into a comfortable
rhythmic breathing pattern. Focus your attention completely
on your feet. Flex them and feel the tension build up, release
the muscle and your breath at the same time and continue all
the way up your body, pausing to release the tension from each
body part along the way. When you reach the crown of your
head, you will be completely relaxed. Take a few moments to
just enjoy this state of peace.
Picture a large wishing well. Cast all of your distractions and
worries in there for the duration of this meditation. Do not
question where they will go, merely deposit them and move
away. At this point, find your way to your sacred space and
spend a bit of time relaxing before stepping beyond the
boundaries of your sacred space into a very large garden. This
garden is as safe as your sacred space, and you will add it to
your sacred space when all is done. You can come here to relax,
meditate, whatever it is you like to do in your own sacred space.
This garden is very large, and well maintained at this time.
The middle is a meeting of many paths throughout the garden,
converging together on one magnificent fountain in the
middle. The fountain is your choice. Make it as simple or
elaborate as you desire, and if you wish, you can even change
it each time you enter in. Those choices are your imaginative
input along with preferences. Take time to see what flowers
you have planted throughout the garden. Smell them, feel
them, touch them with your hands. Bring the sensations to
mind as you do.
The tree lines are full enough to house several mysteries along
the way, but never large enough to hold any harm for you.
What animals do you see along the way? Are there squirrels
in your trees? Acorns on the ground? Clouds in the skies?
How do you honor the elements in your garden? One of the
paths leads to a grassy field. The grass is like a plush carpet,
moving gently on the breeze. If you sit in this field, with your
feet dug deeply into the grass, you can feel the heartbeat throb
of the creative force beneath your feet. The Divine that is
Mother Earth. It blends with your rhythmic pattern and the
two become one.
Remember to breathe normal and comfortably and to remain
relaxed throughout the meditation. If you feel the need at any
time, you can stop and just breathe. Contemplate, feel what is
around and within you.
Choose some of the paths to explore in here. See what you are
planting in your garden as you walk. Are there birds singing
a song as you pass by? What sort of animals are living in the
bushes? Feel free to be as detailed as you wish. This is your
garden. Take the time to enjoy it well. Know it so well that
you can bring that peaceful "picture" to your mind no matter
where you are, or what you are doing, to recreate this calm you
feel now. The idea is to give your mind a sanctuary when
things get out of hand, that can help you reclaim your own
calm power when you need it most.
For the purpose of this meditation, the garden is created and
added to your sacred space. In future meditations, more will be
added, the garden will grow, quite as you grow on your walk.
When you are ready, return to your sacred space and relax a
bit. At your discretion, return to a wakeful state of mind,
fully refreshed and rejuvenated as well. You will remember the
details of this meditation fully, and the peace you felt
walking in your garden.
