The season of Lent is not only a Christian time of personal sacrifice, but it is now observed by many Americans as a time to "give up" something to make the world a better place.

Lent is a perfect time to give up something for the next 40 days that contributes to global warming>>

You can take action in simple ways, like replacing incandescent light bulbs in your home with compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs). CFL bulbs use only a fraction of the energy used by incandescent bulbs and significantly reduce our carbon emissions.

Other suggestions:

  • Commit to driving your car one day less a week and choose instead to walk,
  • Ride your bike, or take public transportation,
  • During the cold winter season, turn down your thermostat by two degrees,
  • Buy produce that is locally grown,
  • Ask your church to purchase energy from a renewable energy source,
  • Install energy efficient appliances in your house or church with the EPA Energy Star label.

Tell us how you are going to work to curb global warming>> http://go.care2.com/e/R6nc/FGl8/lXWN

Have a very nice day!

We changed light bulbs.
We changed out thermostats, ac unit also.
We have cold meals 1 night a week (or more).
I now telecommute 3-4 days a week.
We make 1 trip to the grocery store a week.
We leave the TV off and read one night a week. TV STAYS OFF DURING THE DAY.
I use gray water to water my plants.
We grow as much of our own produce/herbs as possible. I'm using green bags for less food spoilage
We committed to non-toxic products.

I'm sure there is more... lol

We stopped using the van, and use public transportation as much as possible.

In the warmer weather, I hang out a lot of laundry to dry.

We switched our lightbulbs when we moved here.

We keep the heat down at night.  I solved that problem but putting a dog inside my blanket for warmth.

We use cold water 90% of the time for washing.  Only use hot for towels to sanitize.

We have gadgets on the taps to reduce the amount of water used.

We turn off all the lights we can.

We recycle.

You two are great! I have done many things but you two are really making a difference!
Oh, Candy, I remember those 2 dog nights when we lived in a tent; we would pull them in to keep us warm... Wished we had more but with the cats and one of the dogs weighing in at 200 pounds, it averaged out nicely lol....
