I have often wondered about this. What is the difference between being Wiccan and being a Witch. I have read that you can be Wiccan without being a Witch and/or vice versa. Would someone please explain to me the difference. To me we follow pretty much the same beliefs and values so what is the difference? Thank you so much!!

Not all Witches believe in or follow the Rede, but Wiccans do. That's pretty much the main difference, the one that really seems to delineate and differentiate the paths. That's as simple as I (and pretty much anyone can put it).Just because one does not follow the Rede does not mean they don't have morals or an honor code of their own--simply put 'what goes around comes around.' Most of the non-Wiccan Witches I know follow that rule, and find the Rede to be too confining and unrealistic. I know this is far simpler than most people feel and believe in their belief systems--but it makes it a little easier to understand. This doesn't even begin to cover the pagan aspect, either--but I'm trying to keep this simple. Hope it helps.

ok here goes hope this helps in some way.
pagan is a path that is not xtian .
can be, dianic ,heathens ,wiccan ,faery , alexandrian ,gardenerian , druid ect.

wicca is a path that has it roots from a man in the 40/50 named gerald gardner.
now you can follow any teachings in any way or form that does not make you a witch.

witch:someone that follows doing maick and healing ect .
so in short a witch is some one that does magick and healing .being wiccan only means you follow the teachings of the ancestors of that path.

one more thing if you are to call yourself a witch allot of responsibility comes with that it is not a easy thing and great deal of respect to yourself and others is needed.
so hope this has helped in some way.

Hi
Hunny, I think Damian pretty well summed it up simply~ Witches who follow the Rede An Harm none are generally wiccans, those who don't aren't. I do feel that as a Wiccan Witch the differences do go deeper than that. I have been asked or you a Wiccan first or a Witch first? For me the answer is neither comes first~ I AM both. Being A Wiccan Witch is who I am and not just the path that I walk. Others will say they are a witch first with being wiccan following or vice versa. There are witches who follow an it harm none but aren't Wiccan too! Its all so complicated! All that said its the beauty in walking a pagan path that it allows you to explore all the different paths and to cherry pick those ideas and ways that appeal most to you. So I now call myself an Eclectic Wiccan Witch!! LOL!!
I hope I haven't confused you more hunny!
You can read a little more about Wicca   HERE

To me:

Wicca is a religion.  It has the Rede as it tenths.  It has 8 secific times of the year, Sabbats, and 13 Full moons as celebrations.

Witch is a person who manipulates the energies of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit to aceive desired results.

Thank you Heather.  You just answered the question I was wondering about.  I had a friend to whom is no longer a friend due to the fact that she did just what you had mentioned here.  She manipulated the energies of the earth to try and heal someone to whom is VERY negative and doesn't  help in putting some energy into the universe to help her heal.
