A Little Herbal Lore

Almond will grant you wisdom when eaten.
Angelica root carried in a small blue cloth was used for protection.
Apple wood was once used to make a magikal wand used for love spells.
Ash wood was used to make brooms for house cleansing spells, and wands were made for healing.
The leaves of the ash tree were also carried for protection.
Balm of Gilead buds were carried to mend a broken heart.
Basil leaves were carried in your pockets to attract money. Basil was once powdered & used by women to ensure the husband would be faithful, by dusting the powder on the upper body.
Broom was once used to make the circle broom when it’s blooms appeared in May.
Chamomile was used to wash the face and hair to attract a lover in spring.
Carnation was once warn by Witches to protect them from capture and hanging.
Clover was once used in rituals of beauty and youth, & to dream of clover is fortunate.
Cloves were once strung on red thread and worn for protection.
Daisies were used to decorate the home for �?Midsummer Night�?to bring happiness to the home & worn for luck & Blessings.
Dandelion was once used by rubbing one’s self all over with the flower to be welcome anywhere & for all wishes to come true.
Dill was hung in a child’s room to protect them.
Elder branches were once collected on “Beltane Eve�?and fastened to the front door to protect the home from evil.
Ferns were kept in the home to protect the home form damage and storms.
Henbane was once carried by a man wishing for the love of a woman, was also used to make a necklace for a child, to prevent him/her from throwing fits.
Ivy would guard the home as it grew. Ivy was once a gift for newly weds.
A Juniper spring was worn to prevent the wearer from accidents, & grown on the front step will guard the home from thieves.
Mandrake was carried by a woman who wishes to conceive, & carried by a man to prevent impotency.
Marigold was picked and placed in a vase in the home to lift the spirits of everyone in it.
Marjoram was used by placing a piece of the plant in each room for protection.
Mugwort was used to protect the home from bad weather. It was also carried to prevent fatigue on a long journey.
Mullein was worn to gain courage & carried to protect one form wild animal attacks.
Myrrh was used to consecrate all ritual tools.
Myrtle was grown in the home for protection and luck & the wood was carried to preserve youth.
Nettle was used to stuff a poppet to return a curse or bad vibration to the sender.
Nutmeg was carried to increase clairvoyance thought & to dream of the herb tells the dreamer a change in their live is forth coming.
To see a fallen Oak is unlucky. Oak leaves were burned for purification. Acorns were carried for good luck.
Any part of the Olive tree kept is sacred to the Goddess Athena.
A half of an Onion was once placed in the bedroom of a sick person overnight, to absorb the person’s illness.
Orange peels were once carried as a fertility charm.
Parsley was made into wreaths showing respect for the dead.
Rosemary grows very well in a Witches garden, & it is said that rosemary will flourish in the home were the woman is dominant.
Rue was used to dip into water and sprinkled around the home for purification & to smell fresh herb is said to clear the mind of mixed emotions.
Sage is said to grow best in the garden of the wise.
St. John’s Wort was hung in the bedroom to ward off nightmares, & used to banish evil or negative energy.
Sunflowers are said to bring blessings to the garden, & seeds are to be eaten to increase chance of fertility.
The fresh sent of Thyme is said to bring renewed energy.
Vanilla beans were carried as a love charm.
Violet flowers are carried for good luck & to dream of Violets tells the dreamer of change for the better.
To plant a Willow tree is said to bring the one who planted it blessings of the moon, & it is used to bind together a witches broom.
Yarrow was used by young maidens to see if their lover was faithful. The maiden would tickle her nostril with a yarrow leaf and if the nose would bleed the lover was faithful. If her nose did not bleed the lover was not.
