If the airborne troops I met in NO aren't federal then I don't know who is, Martial law was declared and federal troops were there.

I know this as part of the reconstruction effort a small part I was there.

All true...  the troops in La. were under State Control for law enforcement activities.  The last time troops were used against civilians, I believe, was in Waco, when the Justice Dept. lied to get Federal troops to assist the taking of the compound in Waco.  The troops were never under any State authority and it would seem to be a clear violation of the Constitution.

The guy in charge Davie Koresh (sp) gave a speach at the hotel where the Feds were staying the night before, but for reasons unknown,  he was allowed to give the speech and leave unfettered.

None of the Branch Dividians, as they called themselves, were found guilty of anything that was done prior to the assualt on their church.

The leader died, still holding a valid Federal Automatic Weapons License.  It isn't much of a surprise they found weapons on the grounds.  Bet you could find apples at your neighborhood grocer!   I find it strange they never revoked that license, which can be done with relative ease.

I think that was also Nasty Guards but hey he had a 50 Cal and he was well dug in.  That is a real good example of when to use the military I am sure though there are some bleeding heart liberals wh think we over stepped our bounds.  I do believe we let it carry on way too long maybe if they would have moved in faster more innocent lives would have been saved.

Tiger, the Turks have been making war inside Iraq for years.  There are at least 5 Turkish military camps/bases inside Iraq and they have been there since the early 90's.  There were incursions even during Saadam's reign but they didn't make the papers.

Tiger, Lew is right.
It dates back from Turkey's membership of CENTO and NATO, and its support of us during the Korean war.
The Commies hated this and organised the PKK, encouraged by the Labour Party and other fellow travellers.

Churchill was at Ondurman, Sudan. and I think served with 7 RH against the Boers.
Google tells me they served against the Turks in Mesapotamia, but that was long after Churchill resigned.

Ref # 46. Winston Churchill took part in the cavalry charge by the 21st Lancers at the battle of Omdurman on 2 September 1898, which left 71 of them killed and wounded.
