Kennedy's effect was to report all occurrences in the worst possible light to Roosevelt, conveying the impression that the Blitz etc were close to defeating the UK, that Dunkirk and Norway were our miltary swansong, saying basically Britain's had it, don't throw good money after bad.

As Ambassador to London, his word was taken as Gospel by many. In his position, his advice had to be given much credence.

Thak you Flash. There has not been much written about old Joe Kennedy, here in the US of Kenedy.  I do recall it now that you remind me. Our air ace Linberg was from the same school as Kennedy.  I constantly scratch my head wondering why the people of Massachusetts constantly vote Teddy (if he were driving a VW Beetle he would have been president) back into the Senate.  Strange!

Snow Bird

The French could not have put any great pressure on the Americans they were in no position to enforce their claims. Much of the land they claimed was still occupied by the British until the treaty of 1783 as signed.
The French was aggrieved that the Americans had signed a separate peace, after promising in the treaty of Feb 6 1778.

You have me a little confused. The Russians did far more to win WW2 than the US. In fact the British had more men in the field in 1944. Regarding Paris, the city was liberated by the 2nd French Armoured Divisions under Leclerk. The city had been declared an open city by the Germans after pressure from the resistance. No American in sight.

The US efforts in 1944 was not very impressive as the majority of the fighting in Normandy was carried out by British commonwealth troops So much so that Panzer Myer the commander on the German Panzer army said simply if we had attacked the Americans like we attacked the British we would have driven them into the sea.

In Operation Anvil the much vaunted landing in the south was led by British Paratroops and SASS most of the towns and cities supposedly liberated by The US were in fact liberated by the Marquis trained, armed and led by British SOE operatives

You must remember that US did not join the war in Europe voluntarily, they waited until Hitler declared war on the USA

I think your remark about American 'boys' pales into insignificant compared to the losses by the French people in WW1, WW2, Indo China, and Algeria

By the Way I'm British.

It was during kennedy's tenure in UK in the early part of the war, That an American diplomat was caught passing British secrets to the Germans.

For some reason he was never tried and went back to America after the war.

Flash,

Don't you think that six months after Pearl Harbor Japan WAS fighting a defensive battle? After Midway that's all they seemed to be doing, trying to hold on to what they had taken.

THEY JUST HAD A BIO ON KENNEDY OF THE TV LAST NIGHT.
APPARENTLY THEY SAID HE AND HIS FAMILY FIT IN WELL IN ENGLAND.
HE HAD BEEN AGAINST THE WAR BEFORE POLAND WAS EVER INVADED. IT SAID THAT HE WAS A BAD CHOICE FOR A DIPLOMATE IN A WAR SITUATION.
HE SAID IN SPEECHS IN AMERICA THAT BRITAIN WOULD NEVER HOLD OUT. HE SAID AT TIMES IT'S BETTER TO DEAL WITH DICTATORS THAT TO RISK WAR.
HE WAS A GOOD BUSINESSMAN BUT A POOR DIPLOMATE.
THEY SAID THAT HE WASN'T A BOOTLEGGER AFTER ALL BUT WAS ABLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO BOOZE THAT WAS STORED IN BASEMENTS FROM I THINK WAS HIS UNCLES DISTILLERY BUSINESS.
THEY PUT HIM IN CHARGE OF FCC ON HIS RETURN FROM ENGLAND WHERE HE DID A GOOD JOB CLOSING SOME OF THE TAX LOOPHOLES WHICH HE HAD ONE USED HIMSELF.
HE HAD SOLD MOST OF HIS STOCK SHORTLY BEFORE THE 28 CRASH SO WAS STILL MAKING MILLIONS THOUGHOUT THE DEPRESSION.

Kennedy and the American Ambasadors in Poland and France. Were all in the Plot to persuade Poland to stand up to the Germans over the Danzig corridor issue, with te promise of American support if Germany attacked.

Of course it was a ploy to pull the US out of another rescesion by supplyin Arms to both sides.

Tincan, that's rather a specious argument. It took you 'til 1945 to clear the japs out of the Philippines, and the Indians were still advancing into India until June 1944.
but of course,I mustn't raise any contradictory facts which might offend US Forces.
According to the great Demagogue Snowbird. And you.

England declared War on Germany.  The reason is un-important.  The US has NO responsibility to any other nation.  The europeans are small minded selfish, greedy, morons.  let them kill eash other off.  that is a good thing.

Pete re 71:  He imported scotch, wrong word smuggled is better.  He started 21 brands that was afiliated with the 21club.  I had a hamburger in 21 in the early 90's and it cost $21.00.  Nice burger but not worth $21.00
I stopped in at the Kennedy Library on the way up to Maine.  Don't let Tommy know.  It was interesting as it brought you back to the 60's.  If Bobby wasn't around I think JFK might have been a conservative dem. I don't know how accurate his presidential ranking will be as he didn't make a full term.  He is ranked lower than I thought he would be.  He did have a persona that dimmed Nixon's credibility.  He also wrote 2 books Why Englad Slept and Profiles in Courrage.  Both good reading. Pete do Sunday, Tommy & I a big favor and send us down  some of your cool air.  It's 104 here so Sunday must be 110 and you know how she gets when she gets hot.

Sunnyboy: Re your 45
What a great idea.  Maybe we can give them all football jerseys with numbers.  Then you can root and bet on the outcome.  Sounds like fun to me.

Sunnyboy
A good example of your stupid unreasoned idiotic logic.
The only way you impress is your capacity to arouse boredom.
Like a stupid little schoolboy blowing his kazoo in the playground.
