You will recall our discussion of the raw material for Spam, which our ever Tiny
Sunday said came from Spigs. At last a photo of one, masquerading as a Liberian miniature Hippo. Well done Sunday.

Spam sometimes contains a degree of mystery meat.  I doubt anyone will notice that its ingredients include spippo.

They had a big sale on Spam in my local super market.  They had a display that had to be 8 foot tall and 4 ft. deep.  I guess people really eat it.

IT USE TO BE BIG IN THE 50'S 60'S AS A QUICK MEAL WHEN CAMPING. IT WAS A MEAT THAT COULD BE CARRIED AND DIDN'T HAVE TO BE REFRIDGERATED.
IT COULD BE EATEN COLD OR FRIED.
IT WASN'T BAD IF LIGHTLY BATTERED OR CHOPPED UP AND ADDED TO AN EGG OMELET.

When I first went off with my pals camping, when I was 14, we always ran out of food pretty quick and never had money to buy more, but we always saved the spam for last. Nobody gets as hungry as kids on the go and when we were dizzy with hunger we would sit and lick slices of spam just like lollies, taking ages to finish them..... sheer bloody luuuuugsury.

In the service my mom would send me a small Jewish Salami that was hard to  hide once opened.  You could eat it cold or fry it up over a candle.   If you could get an egg from the kitchen and a couple slices of bread yum.
I heard that Spam was a bigger seller in Hawaii than hot dogs.

That animals real name is a spminal, Genus sapmicus Phylum spipo, one of three animals that make up that caserole ingredient Spam. the other animals that make up Spam are the spig Genus Spamicus Phylum Spiggo, and the bird Spammow Genus Spamicus Phylum Spammow.

Just for your expansion of knowledge.

The more mentally insecure will remind you that, as a binder in the UK recipe, there is a high percentage of bromide and other depressants to minimise that euphoric "all pals together" atmosphere. Preserve our Wildlife.

In America sliced fried US recipe Spam is also referred to as "The Bonding Burger"

Also when we were camping at 14, we never seemed to have any toilet paper, so we used the lables off the food tins, problem then was, what was in them? As i've said, nobody gets as hungry as kids on the go, so when it came to our twice daily display of gastronomic savagery, we had to pick two cans per pair of us and no matter what, they went in the same pan. Ever tried peaches and speghetti, or for the adventurous gastronome, what about baked beans and rice pudding...yum yum.
