Political Correctness strikes again.  Childrens textbooks, in the UK, have now started replacing BC and AD in dates with "BCE" and "CE" and all in pursuit of being "PC".

"CE" stands for "Common Era"; and "BCE" for "Before Common Era".  Someone - it has never been clear who - decided four years ago that schools should use secular terms to avoid offending non-Christian sensibilities. Whisper it softly, but the dates remain tied to the birth of Christ.  Sunday, please note!!

Something tells me that BCE is/was a shotgun propellant enhancer.

Peter B, I can never understand what all the to do is about.  I heard a feller sayin' by the west constantly tryin' to push things that our tied to Christianity that we offened the sensibilities of the world.  He figured that by pushin' such western ideas as Christianity we put a rift 'tween those in the east who don't have western ideas as such...Which kinda made me laugh since Chritianity like most religions is actually a eastern born idea...So who the hell really knows...I always figured that some folk just look and wait for chances to be offended....Hell they are the kind of folk that if they won the lottery they would pitch a fit about the denominations they gave them the money in.

The most stupid thing about this kind of political correctness is that the vast majotity Muslims, ethnic minorities etc are not actually offended at all ! They accept Christmas and church bells etc, it's the idiotic folk who THINK others will be offended that come up with these crazy ideas.

In Kuwait people were actually paid to convert to Islam. Imagine going to a muslim over here and waving a fiver in his face.

CE & BCE also stand for 'Current Era' and 'Before Current Era' but you're right about Political Correctness being the driving force behaind their use.

Fascism is Government by Trade Union Block vote. Had this argument with another before.
Fascism is also Knee jerk description of any political creed with which the speaker disagrees.
Commie buggers.
