I was listening to a fascinating re-cast on the Exodus bit on Discovery Channel.

They stated, among other things,

  1. The Red sea as we call it is an old Hebrew mistranslation of Reed sea.
  2. This means possibly that this refers to the East border of Egypt which to this day is marshland
  3. Therefore the seas did not divide, it means the Hebrews crossed the reedbeds.
  4. They've worked out from Pharaonic skulls that Rameses major "Pharoah" did not lead his armies, it was his son. Rameses minor.
  5. Moses was another son of Pharoah's, who led a slave revolt. In so doing he killed Rameses minor. there are fracture wounds on his skull.
  6. It was not 600,000 Hebrews but a "few" thousand who escaped and were well armed.

Interesting..........

Most of the Bible stories can be explained away rationally and this seems a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Flash, I as well my friend had heard about the sea of reeds thing.  I also heard that the sea of reeds of today is not the same as it was back then.  As from what I understood the Suez Canal, changed a lot of the make up of the area from back then to present.  Do ya have any knowledge on this?  I have wanted to check it out myself, but just don't ever seem to have the time I want to do as such.

I SEEN A PROGRAM ON NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC OR THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL A FEW YEARS BACK AND EXPLAINED ALL THE THINGS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAPPENED FOR MOSES WHOLE TRIP. INCLUDING THE BURNING PILLAR AND PARTING OF THE SEA. THE MARSH WAS MENTIONED AND A UNDERWATER EARTH QUAKE WHICH CAUSED A TSUNAMI.
BEFORE IT HIT LAND FALL IT SUCKED THE WATER OUT BEFORE THE WAVE CAME BACK IN. THE SEA WAS REALLY ONLY A REED MARSH.

Normal good to hear from you.
Can't see how much difference Suez would have made because I think there are only about 4 ' of tide in the canal.

So yes, the sea level is about 28 ft higher, but there's no scouring effect.
