Oscar Wilde once observed that "There is no country in the world so much in need of unpractical people as this country of ours (England)" I'm looking for information on two "unpractical" politicians who made some interesting noise in the U.K.: Colonel Charles Sibthorp, who served in Parliament in the first half of the nineteenth century and was noted for his ultra-conservatism, nationalism and xenophobia (he thought, for example, that railroads were too progressive an idea); and Anthony Tudor (not the dancer), who campaigned for election as King of England in the 1920s or '30s. One of his campaign gimmicks was a £ note with his picture on it. I'm looking for any published material on these two Brits...any books, magazine articles. |
