I still can't see where his purported transvestism comes in?

John Walker 1781-1859 An interesting story this one. Walker studied to be a surgeon, but found the whole business a bit too gruesome, so he switched to being a pharmacist and opened his own pharmacy in Stockton on Tees (the birthplace of so many inventors and inventions) In the back of his shop he began to experiment with combustible chemicals, starting with two, phosphorous and sulphur, which Robert Boyle had discovered back in 1680, would light when rubbed together. Walker used a wooden spatula to mix a concoction of Antimony Sulphide, Potassium Chloride and gum and left it on the fireplace overnight. The following morning it had set and when he went to pick it up, he accidentally struck it on the stone, thus producing a flame. John Walker had invented the match, widely regarded as one of the top ten inventions of all time. Unusually, he never advertised his invention but sold them from his shop, where they were spread by word of mouth alone. Despite encouragement from the likes of Farraday to patent his idea, Walker refused, saying he had enough money for his needs and merely wanted the public to benefit from them. They were sold in tins, with a small piece of glasspaper, which you folded over and then drew the match through.

Major: #208 No you didn't. Honesty can be scathing but necessary. in fact I think you were quite restrained.

Tommy is celebrated for a lot of vices (not all parents like their children) and the earth will travel many light years before Tommy is through confessing.
