FV4004 120mm Gun Conway, and FV4005 183mm Gun Tank

Conway was an attempt to up-gun the Centurion with a 120mm gun mounted in a high turret. Other attempts to up-gun the Centurion to 183mm were tried, firstly using a limited traverse mounting (no turret) and secondly using a lightly armoured fully traversable turret. This latter turret still survives in the grounds at the Bovington Tank Museum. I understand that Conway is currently in store at Bovington, although a model of Conway is on display.

There you go PBA. Need to get up to speed on the 183 mm gun

I was looking at the Israelis lining their Merkavas up. This is a Mk 4 now. Apparantly they've been holding back because of boggy conditions. 120mm gun plus 60mm mortar plus 1500 hp BUT 65 Tons.

The Military Channel just had a piece about the 10 best tanks ever.  The two History Channels had rated tanks previously & in one survey the T-34 won & the other the Abrams.  The latest had the Leopard as the best ever.

The Israelis are very fond of their Cummings engined Diesel Cents though.

In 2002 They announced they would scrap Merkava after 2006 but have changed their minds.

The Centurian finished in the top 5 along with the Merkava.   The Sherman was #10.

When evaluating the T-72 the commentator said it was like everything else the Russians built, a death trap.  Apparently he did not like the auto-loader.

Auto loader auto loaded the gunner's arm.
I reckon where the US won was was multi purpose hull.
look at this!
Picture of M163 Vulcan You might be sitting in a T62 but when a burst from this comes a-knocking on your hull, at 3,000 rpm, it becomes untenable.

Or this
 40 MM DUSTER
1956-88. The Israelis proved they lost more aircarft during Yom Kippur to ZSU 23-4s and ZSU 57-2s

And

than they ever did to missiles.

Dunno Flash, when the Egyptians moved their armor forward & from out of the umbrella of SAMS they were wiped out by the Israeli air force.

I won't deny that, but the ZSUs (radar aimed you see) gave the Israelis a lot of headaches.
Hence the adoption of Gepard in 1974

(Bloody great water cooled 35mm cannon)
