I worked with an ex Chief Petty Officer from the R.N. He told me when his ship got a new captain prior to heading off to Suez, the usual all hand on deck muster was called so he could address the ship's company. The most telling remark the new captain made was:-

"Servicemen don't give theirs lives for their country, their lives are stolen from them"

This being the case, why is it always said "they gave their lives?
Jimbert

Chesty Puller the most decorated Marine officer ever reportedly told his men at the outset of the Chosin Resorvoir battle "I'm going to win the Medal of Honor if it takes a boxcar full of dogtags". History will tell you how he did.

AN' I'M STILL AROUND TO TEACH YOU YOUNG LADS A THING OR TWO.

Jumbo shrimp. Shows how themes move in these Posts.

I was reading about Vietnamese shrimp/prawns; how they are bieng raised in a glutinous soup of illegal chemicals (writer a scientist identified 50) and many are being poisoned.

Worse than the contents of the TDL washing machine on skiddies day......

With great aplomb, that captain went on to become admiral of the fleet.
The muslims, who tie bombs to their bodies, give their lives for their faith.
No serviceman goes into battle expecting to die, apart from kamikaze pilots, they will fight to the death to retain it.
How many servicemen, who have lost limbs or sight, volunteered for that privilege?

I say! That ain't fair! Me Sergeant at Piper's Fort was only too pleased to give me the credit for his gallantry! Well couldn't say much I suppose with a jezail bullet through his head hammered copper wire bullets don't do too much good.

But listen Flashy got the VC, an' I know yer tickled pink to have him grace these pages.
