April, 1915 The Canucks fought their first major action in the Great War.  The Second Battle of Ypres & although they fought valiantly for their Brit masters they were provided with a horribly inadequate rifle.  The Ross which was chambered in .303 but jammed significantly after rapid fire.  The rifle was developed by a Brit immigrant to Canuckistan Sir Charles Ross.  Ever wonder why all those Brits have a "Sir" as a prefix?  Oh well back to the Tomspin.  Anyway, Sir Charles built his own factory & started to build rifles which he sold to the Canuckistan government at a handsome profit.  Almost sounds American.   Sir Charles' design was a straight pull back design which was a thing of beauty on the target range, but as previously posted, jammed after rapid fire in combat forcing the poor soldier to eject spent cartridges with his boot, piece of wood, rock or any other object he good get hold of.  Of course Sir Charles' thing of beauty was a stolen design from Mannlicher but his application  didn't work in combat. After making the Mark I, Mark II & Mark III failures the Canuckistan government did the Socialist thing in 1916 & bought the factory for Sir Charles & continued to make inferior products now known as the Domion Rifle factory.   Finally the Brits were able to produce enough Enfield's to provide the Canucks with a reliable rifle & the Ross rifle factory was demolished in 1931 for a municipal park.

By the way the Mannlicher straight pull was invented in 1891. The Ross appeared in 1905. Any patent would have expired by then. As you know with the Rollin White patent so another stupid anti British point wrong.

The Ross rifle was prized as a sniper rifle.

And what about your stolen patents on the Springfield?

The title 'Sir' is an ancient award for services to the country and is part of our heritage, which I'm glad to see, we are maintaining, against left wing oppostion. Lefties hate tradition, as it stands in the way of their utopian dreams. They will fight tooth and nail for other people's traditions, but ours don't quite hit the ethnic button, which triggers the self righteous inner glow for them. Many Yanks have been Knighted for services to Britain, but tradition( that word again) dictates, they cannot use the Sir prefix, as they are foreign.

BTW The Ross factory was bought and the name changed  to Dominion Rifle factory and a very imprfessive LMG based on Ross parts The Huot, was built there.

The Dominion Rifle Factory (formerly the Ross rifle factory)[8] built a finished version of the design, under the supervision of Assistant Inspector of Small Arms Major Robert Mills of the Seaforth Highlanders. It was tested at Quebec City on 12 November 1916, with a second 650-round[9] trial of an improved version on 15 February 1917.[10] The Master-General of Ordnance, Blair, demanded a third test, firing 11,000 rounds (half Dominion Cartridge Company, half Dominion Arsenal) on 5-6 March 1917.[11] The Huot was also examined at the Rockcliffe Rifle Range on 22 October 1917, which led S. C. Meuburn to recommend it be adopted by the British Army.[12]

So far from Ross conning the Canadians as you imply, he spent a lot of money trying to supply good weapons. Unlike your crap WW1 BAR. Want to tell us about that pork barrel again?

Are you aware the Ross was produced from 1903? hardly a last minute con. And they finished it in 1915 so it only saw 1 years' wartime manufacture.

If you look that means only 1 year to discover the problem AND WITHDRAW IT.

YOU ON THE OTHER HAND INFLICTED YOUR PORK BARRELS ON YOUR AND EVERY OTHER SUFFERING SOLDIER WHOSE GOVERNMENT WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO BUY YOUR CRAP

SEE COLT .38. SEE BREWSTER BUFFALO SEE ALLISON ENGINED MUSTANG, AIRACOBRA. UNWORKABLE B29.

Unlike your crap BAR, Springfield, Garand MI carbine etc.  You are the biggest producers of crap weappnry in the world see Krag Jorgensen on.
