250 years ago today, on 25 November 1758, the British captured the French stronghold of Fort Duquesne. The first fort on the site was the partially built British Fort Prince George which was captured by the French in 1754. The French completed it and re-named it Fort Duquesne. Four years later it was taken by a British force under Gen. Forbes. He built a larger fort nearby and named it Fort Pitt after the influential Cabinet Minister William Pitt (the Elder). The town that grew up around it became Pittsburgh. |

WHY ONLY 45K I WONDER. THOUGHT THE DOME HELD 55K. I NEVER HEARD MUCH ABOUT IT UNTIL THE LAST WEEK BEFORE IT WAS PLAYED. |

Pete, the dome does hold 55k & they only sold 45k. Sellouts are an every week occurance at Wilson Stadium where the capacity is 70k. Lots of bitching about the high tix cost up in Tonto as well. T-Dog |

Pete, Ralph Wilson Stadium (originally Rich Stadium) was the house that O.J. built in 1973. Originally held about 78,000 & is open with no roof & built in the snow belt of Orchard Park N.Y. which gets lake-effect snows off of Lake Erie. Duh, they shoulda built a dome in Downtown Buffalo. About 10 years ago they built some corporate luxury boxes that reduced the capacity to about 70,000 fannies. T-Dog |

WE JUST CAN'T GET THE SAME SIZED CROWDS TOMMY UNLESS IT WAS FOR THE STONES OR THE POPE. AS YOU KNOW THE DOME IS NOW CALLED THE ROGERS CENTRE. THE OWNER IS ALSO THE OWNER OF ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS. LET'S SAY HE WAS, HE DIED LAST WEEK. |

Pete, is the Rogers Centre where the Leafs play what used to be Air Canada Centre? BTW the Leafs just beat our beloved Sabres 2 to 1 on a fluke goal. T-Dog |

IT TAKES 20 MINUTES TO OPEN IT. HOME OF THE BLUE JAYS. CN TOWER IN THE BACKGROUND. THEY SAY THAT BECAUSE THE WAY IT WAS BUILT THAT THERES NOT A BAD SEAT IN THE HOUSE. |

Pete, okay I've been to Sky Dome to watch a Jays game when I was working in the evil corporate world. My boss treated our department to a game in April. He is a real baseball traditionalist & was bitching about playing baseball in a dome but it was 45F outside with a drizzle & watching the game inside was a pleasure I enjoyed. Also McDonalds had the concession & they sold hot dogs. How bout dat eh? T-Dog p.s. Pete what happened to your Sens eh? Last place. |

Mark, UK -wide famed football hooligan, the terror of the Kop, the man who put Man into Manchester, Live into Liverpool, Bristols into Bristol (but still dares not watch Colchester United Juniors practice) Will admit Wembley Stadium has a sliding roof all to buy labour votes of course and is the biggest sliding roof in the world The 88% covered is for poofs. there is a section uncovered. Football is for poofs anyway. The Rugby stadium at Twickenham is still wholly exposed, so havbe yer feller bring an umbrella. |

I've been to the Skydome too, saw my first ever game of baseball there. I really liked the sculpture of the fans on the outside , but the baseball totally bewildered me, despite the comentary, so I took solace in my old friends.... hops barley yeast and water., which are comforting me right now. |

OTTAWA DOESN'T SEEM TO BE DOING THAT WELL THIS YEAR TOMMY. I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHEN I'M UP AT THE APARTMENTS THIS WEEK BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL SENATOR FANS. THE LAST HOCKEY GAME I ATTENDED WAS IN THE GARDENS. I HAVE BEEN OUTSIDE THE DOME AND THE CN TOWER BUT NEVER IN THEM. THAT'S SAD WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT. THE WEATHER HERE IS A LITTLE NUTS. WE HAD SNOW BUT TEMPERATURE WENT UP TO +7 TODAY AND IT ALL MELTED. OUT WEST IN THE PRAIRES IS IN A DEEP FREEZE. IN THE MINUS 20 RANGE. THE EAST COAST IS MUCH MILDER AND COMPLAINING THAT THEY CAN'T OPEN THEIR SKI HILLS. I SEE YOUR NORTH EAST TOOK A HIT WITH AN ICE STORM TOMMY. A MILLION PLUS WITHOUT POWER. ICE STORMS LOOK PRETTY BUT DO A LOT OF DAMAGE. POOR BUSH. THE ONLY THING THAT HE WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR NOW IS DUCKING REPORTERS SHOES IN IRAQ. I SEE THAT YOU GUYS MAJOR LOST FOUR THE OTHER DAY TO A 13 YEAR OLD SUICIDE BOMBER. WE LOST 3 LAST WEEK AND 3 THIS WEEK TO IED'S. AS THEY WERE HAVING A PARADE FOR THE FALLEN AND LOADING THE COFFINS ONTO THE PLANE THEY CAME UNDER A MORTER ATTACK AGAIN. |
