Can anyone here shed any light, from a southern point of view, on the CSA's secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin?
From what I have read he was the child of Jewish parents, which seems to be in contrast with the anti-semitism of the Klan and other ethnic intolerent groups. I also read that he had encouraged Jefferson Davis to free the slaves in an attempt to save the Confederacy.
In your opinion, what role did he play in the war, and was his ethnic heritage ever a factor?
