An Officers Test

A Certain 'Je ne sais quois.'

Apparently, one of the elite French Cuirassier regiments had a rather novel selection test for aspiring officers. Candidates were provided with three women, three bottles of champagne and three horses. They were then given three hours in which to complete the following; drink all the champagne, bed all three women and ride a cross-country course of twenty miles. These activities could be completed in any order the candidate wished

In A ompany I/ KOYLI in the 50's you had to pass a simlar test to get into the company. You had to drink 13 pints, get into a punchup with the Redcaps (Military Police) and be sentenced to 28 days deention.

Arnie

That one's also quoted by John Masters in "Bugles and a Tiger" only he attributes it to the French cavalry Officer Cadet School at Saumur.
But the details are identical.

This test was easy.   There is no time required to complete each task.  I walk and rode the horse slowly.   It took me 7 days to cover 20 miles.  The women got one day each.  The cham.   was the worst part  that took 30 days.

I was told you let the women go and used the horses. Thereby qualifying for the Mongol cavalry as well.

That is a very interesting test. However, in the Navy, we just called that liberty.

We were blindfolded.  Using only smell you could not tell the difference between the french women and the horses.

That is not really fair!

Should have been allowed to use the feel test too..............

With that test, it would be immediately revealed which was horse and which was coarse...........  Horses shave their legs, you know.............

Please stop insulting sheep, none of them really like the French but they have to go where their shepard takes them.  Besides, mine are starting to get nervous when ever they see me putting on spurs or bringing out the roasting pan.
