For ardent Monarchists such as myself this middle period of July is a depressing time. On 17 July 1918 the Russian Imperial Family were murdered by the Communists at Ekaterinburg and on 14 July 1958 the Iraqi Royal Family were massacred in a coup. If the monarchy had continued we would not have had the problems we have faced in Iraq these last 20 years.

Only minons need royals.   Royals never leave leadership.  Therefore, leadership is controlled by those not smart enough to lead.

Glad to see you back old friend, and to prove it I'm going to agree with you. The royal family is only a figure head for the status quo.

Although I would prefer the Queen to a President like Bush

I don't know really. I've always lived in GB and the system works OK, so if it's not broke don't fix it. Also having a love of history you get to learn about the various monarchs that have shaped our history and you feel an attachment to the institution of Monarchy. That's not to say that it's always perfect, we can all think of tyrannical or inept monarchs, but you get Presidents like that too.

It's all about what you're ued to. To me the very idea of the Republic of Great Britain is unthinkable, and to you no doubt the notion of a King or Queen of the United States is equally ludicrous. Both systems suit us fine.

How about King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette?

Louis XVI was undoubtedly an inadequate King for the problems that beset France at the time whilst Marie Antoinette's main problem was that she was from Austria, a country that was at war with France. They have no relevence to the modern monarchies of the 21st century. Things have changed, even in GB, since then.
