What was Americas involvement with the Korean and Vietnam wars, noting that the US was relatively successful in the fromer but not the latter. And how could that be related to current events?

The Korea War was a real mess ?I believe ( in my opinion) more so that Nam every was. There was a common belief that when the NK Troops saw US Soldiers they would run ?which didn’t have happen there was whole scale slaughter of US Troops ( Task Force Smith anyone ?)?Troops taken from Japan was sent to fight in Korea ?many who had not shot a rifle in years ?band members , office clerks and the like were just thrown in ? (not even going into the political wars going on in Washington DC )
The only real major accomplishment for the Korea War was the stop of segregated US military units and the intergration of military units- this was done because of major loss of US Troops and the us and them mentality among US Troops ?(minorities)
NAM ?thou I do not agree on the merits of fighting the Vietnam War ? its a Cold War legacy ?( in my opinion) the reason why the war was lost ?was akin to why Hannibal lost to Rome for 19yrs he smashed every Roman Army sent against him ?but Hannibal refused to march on Rome ?the seat of power ?to reflect the only time anything was accomplished at the Paris Peace talks with Hanoi ?is when there was unrestricted bombing of the North ?But USA would have never openly invaded Hanoi on the ground for fear of causing WW III ?and China entrance into the conflict - Much of Hanio’s supplies came from China and were held in Strategic Supply points along the China NVN border inside China
However in my opinion the only way to have won the war in Nam was to attack and take Hanoi -destory their seat of power and infrasturture

During the 70s and early 80's I spent three tours "In the Land of the Morning calm". Upon taking a back road from Cp. Humphreys to Seoul I stopped and looked over the area where "Task force Smith" made their stand. Even then as Private I could see this was not the place to make a fight. Kinda like a inverted horse shoe with "Smith" on the lower side of it: that is, high ground was to the NKs advantage. Not one of finer moments in history.
