600 years ago today : 11 March 1405, the battle of Grosmont fought during Owain Glyndwr's revolt against the English. His most able commander Rhys Gethin was defeated by Sir John Talbot. It marked the beginning of the downturn of the fortunes of the Welsh resistance.

100 years ago today : 24 March 1905, Jules Verne, died. French author of adventure and early science fiction stories. His best known works are probably Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days.
