We've been having such a good time! Tonight we had to bandage and splint each other. The other night we had a mock disaster and had to go in and triage the injured (who were holding paper plates with their symptoms and injuries and we had to tag them correctly).
It's been a really great experience, so far!
4 more weeks to go and we're done!! 2 down, 4 to go!
Tuesday we do search and rescue and have to bring flashlights and some heavy blankets. We learn how to decipher between safe and unsafe structures, the patterns to go in to look for survivors and how to mark an area as searched so as to not repeat the same area, and how to get the victims out of harms way.
The blankets are going to be to move the people.
It's really fun.
I still can;t wait for the 21st of this month when we get to go to the college where the firefighters train and put out a small fire!
I remember doing EMT classes and doing a ride along with a fire department,they set up mock drills for us and i was "running"with a guy that lived near me and we had to put a 300+pound guy on a stretcher(sp)just him and i.......we did it,the adrenrail got running and it was great
Than afterwards we had a debreifing where we talked about our runs and i announced our first run was"Sex in the Woods.".........had everyone cracking up.I miss it alot,i might retake classes again....i so miss it.
That would be nice to take those classes, again, since you enjoyed them so much. Or even through volunteering so you can still get that part of your life satisfied since it brings you such pleasure.
