When the video opens, please hit "view in high quality" just to the right below the main movie screen, it may load slower, you may have to hit pause and wait until it loads all the way but it IS worth it :)

recently visited Northumberland for a week, and these photo's were taken on my visit to Alnwick Castle (a Pilgrimage for Harry Potter fans!)

In the first two films Alnwick Castle played "Hogwarts" We actually did the Harry Potter tour where they showed you exactly what was filmed where.....
The main places you will recognize is when the first years go up to the entrance and Neville loses his toad, it was the entrance arch here, and then the first flying lesson was on the grass (there is a poster right where it happened). Also when Harry flies up to get Neville's remembrall you can see the top of Alnwick Castle, and when Woods shows Harry about the quidditch balls, you can see the sentinels behind Harrys head..

Here is a bit of info on Alwick Castle and other movies and shows that were filmed there:

Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, the first being Windsor Castle, and has been the home of the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. The earliest mention of Alnwick Castle in the history books appears soon after 1096 when Yves de Vescy became baron of Alnwick and erected the earliest parts of the Castle.

The Castle was first restored by the 1st Lord Percy of Alnwick in the early 1300's and portions of this restoration remain today, including the Abbot's Tower, the Middle Gateway and the Constable's Tower.
Filmed at Alnwick Castle

Below are a number of films that have used Alnwick Castle as a location.

Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint; directed by Chris Columbus

2001 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

1971 - Mary Queen of Scots
