Ghosts on the California Coast.

Famed paranormal researcher Brad Steiger reveals in his
powerful book Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits and Haunted
Places (Visible Ink Press) that Port Hueneme Naval Base
in southern California has many stories of ghosts.

According to Mr. Steiger, the base Officer's Club has a long
history of strange psychic events. Some military personnel
believe that the ghost of a U.S. Senator haunts the second
floor of the facility. Another ghost of Chinese origin has
been spotted in numerous locations in the 3-story club.

A warehouse that was built on the site of a former medical
clinic is also haunted by ghosts. Steiger indicates that a
phantom Navy officer was once encountered there at night.

There were also reports of whispering voices that came at
the same time every day. When a security detail checked
there was no one around or any logical explanation for the
sounds.

And years ago two naval personnel witnessed a man scurry
through the building late at night, wearing clothing that
resembled the uniform of the Second World War. He ignored
their stares, ran past them and dissolved into nothingness.
It was a long moment before the stunned witnesses recalled
that all the doors and windows were locked until dawn.
There was no way the intruder could have entered the
building. Initially, the man they saw looked as if he was
very solid—unlike the commonly held view that ghosts are
semi-transparent or dressed in white.

In yet another case, a young man was stocking merchandise
in the warehouse when he saw a high-ranking officer in
uniform looking at a rack of military caps. But when he
saluted him, the officer slowly vanished.

Hollywood's Haunted Hotel.

Brad Steiger reveals in Real Ghosts... that the ghosts of
Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift and Carole Lombard have
been seen in the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.
Marilyn Monroe posed for her first print advertisement on
the diving board of the Roosevelt's pool, and she stayed
often at the hotel over the years. Her favorite mirror is
often displayed in the lower elevator foyer, and numerous
individuals claim to have seen Marilyn's sensuous image
near—or superimposed over—their own when they stop to look
in the reflecting glass.

Montgomery Clift lived in the hotel for three months during
the final stages of filming From Here To Eternity. He would
pace the halls and sometimes practice bugle calls much to
the consternation of nearby guests. Since Clift's death in
1966, the sound of a bugle playing taps has regularly been
heard on the same floor. But when the disturbance is
investigated, no one is found playing a bugle or any other
brass instrument.

Carole Lombard shared her fabulous penthouse at the
Roosevelt with the legendary Clark Gable. Numerous guests
who have since slept in the room have encountered the
gorgeous ghost of the comedienne, who died in a tragic
plane crash. Interestingly, no one has spotted Clark
Gable's spirit in the penthouse or elsewhere in the
legendary Roosevelt Hotel.
