We need but to be pleased

by James A.Gower ©

April 28,2003

He turns his collar to the chill night air

And wonders where is his lady fair

Across the wastelands he peers

Letting the night exaggerate his fears

He knows she is waiting all safe and sound

When he hears the hoof beats upon the frozen ground

He screams i've been waiting damn you and your kind

Take me now cross the river styx to rest my weary mind

Into the fog that seems so endless there

Straining with his weary eyes painfully doth stare

Longing for his beloveds longing arms

And letting her have her way showing off her charms

But this is just a dream something never again to touch

For now it will only be memories of love and such

Why did he go and leave her there on that cursed day

Why did not he turn his head and tell her that he'd stay

He'd fought enough ore the years loyal to his king

This was not for glory but money was the thing

To fight for king and country surely was his edge

And then he lowed his stand for money was his pledge

He knew this very day he would be rejoiced

But he would give it all to have made the other choice

So now he'll sleep and dream once more of lovers come and gone

And once again be born to fight and never have a home

Till he learns the one true fact that most of us don't see

That when we have it very good we need but to be pleased
