The first step is to identify your need. Be specific about what it is you need but don't tie yourself to one particular form. If you work to fulfill your need rather than working for the outward form, then it will manifest, though maybe in a different form than you imagined. Trust in the universe to work out the details.

 

Consider what deities and astrological influences correspond to your intent and decide on the appropriate herbs. For any given intent there is usually a seemingly endless list of possibilities but this will be narrowed down by what's available. Timing your working to the appropriate day, hour or phase of the moon is certainly helpful, but if you're working to remedy an urgent situation don't feel that you have to wait a week until the phase of the moon is right.

 

Ultimately the only thing you need to work magic is your own energy and will; everything else is just a tool to augment it.Empower the herb(s) you've chosen. Focus on each one individually, attuning itto your intention and seeing your need already met. See it glowing bright with power. Finally, work your spell. Herbs can be used alone, in a sachet, pillow, poppet, herbal bath, brew or any number of other ways, or as part of a larger framework, burning your empowered herbs as incense while working a spell or during a ritual.
