Hello Jean, if you can bear,((excuse the pun, lol)) with me for just a short while, until we can both get up into the loft again, I have a large amount of lovely old knitting patterns from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s, and I seem to remember there being patterns for dolls and things among them. I can't remember if there were teddy patterns, but I will look through them and let you know! Lots of Love Mary.xxx |

Crikey Mary - I thought I was a hoarder, but compared to you, I'm just an amateur, lol. Jean, I have some patterns somewhere for knitted toys too. Can't remember there being any teddies, but I'll have a look and let you know. Luv Pansy |

Aaww, poor Blues, perhaps someone could knit you one, lol. Own up now, the reason why you have that site in your favourites is so that you can check out new patterns you can try out in your teabreaks, rofl . What a treasure trove. I've put it in my favourites now too . Thanks Blues. Lots of nice cute teddies and clothes in there Jean. I had a look amongst my patterns and couldn't find one for a teddy. I was going to suggest that I have one for a dolly which might have done - the shape is pretty much the same. It could be knitted in a "teddy" colour and you could have put a pair of ears on it. However, I'm sure you'll find something suitable in that site. Luv Pansy |

Does this help..Charr Teddy Bear Rita Taylor Materials Oddments of DK (worsted) in main colour (MC) for head and paws Various colours for trousers, jumper and scarf Size 10 (UK) needles Instructions Using MC, cast on 10 sts and purl 1 row. Knit next row, increasing in every stitch to 20sts. St St 7 more rows. Change to trouser colour, garter st 30 rows. Break yarn. Work another leg the same, then work across all 40 sts and garter stitch 16 rows. Leave 10 sts on holder. Change to jumper colour and garter st across 20 sts, leaving next 10 on holder. Garter st on these 20 for 24 rows. Break yarn. Leave sts on holder. Garter st across both sets of 10 left on holder for 24 rows. Change to head colour and knit across all 40 sts. St St 3 rows, then dec in every 4th st for neck. Work 1 row then inc in every 3rd st (to approximately 50sts). Work for about 3 ins and cast off all sts (or work across half of them, then cast off both sets of 25 together). Fold head in half and join seam across top (if necessary) and down side. Turn right side out and stitch across corners with matching yarn to form ears. Sleeves Pick up 17 sts (8 from front, 1 from neck edge and 8 from back) in jumper colour and work in garter st for 20 rows to form arms. Change to paw colour and st st 10 rows. Thread yarn through last sts and draw up tight. Sew up paw, under arm and side seam of jumper. Sew up inside legs. Stuff teddy fairly firmly (but don't make him too hard or he won't be cuddly) through back seam of trousers. Using yarn for head, etc, doubled weave a thread in and out of sts of neck and pull it up fairly tightly. Sew in firmly so babies can't pick it out. Scarf Cast on 6o sts, knit 4 rows, cast off. Sew the middle of this to the back of the neck (firmly enough that it can't be removed) and leave ends long enough for child to play with. Face Embroider a nice face on the teddy. I use a chain st, outlined with a bigger ch st for the eyes, 4 or 5 straight sts for the nose, and 2 large fishbone sts for the whiskers (sometimes with an extra one underneath the centre of these two) to give him a smile |
