Insect bites A swollen paw or muzzle may result from the bite of an insect. You can call your veterinarian about advice for an over-the-counter antihistamine to reduce the allergic response. Cortisone cream can be applied to any insect bite area to help provide relief. Some insect stings will create numerous swollen areas about the head and neck and the face may even swell. Be sure to call your veterinarian regarding home treatment or an office call to assist the patient. A life-threatening reaction to an insect sting is very rare in animals but it can happen. |
