OLD-FASHIONED PEAR CONSERVE Fresh pear flavor is preserved in this delicate spread for breakfast breads.

2 | | pounds (8 medium) pears, peeled, cored, quartered |
2 1/4 | | cups sugar |
1 | | (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple in pineapple juice |
1 | | tablespoon lemon juice |
1/2 | | teaspoon freshly grated lemon peel |
Place half of pears in food processor bowl fitted with metal blade or 5-cup blender container. Process until finely chopped (1 to 2 minutes). Place chopped pears in heavy 4-quart saucepan. Process remaining pears; place into saucepan. Stir in all remaining ingredients.
Cook over medium heat until pears are very soft and mixture thickens (35 to 45 minutes). Serve warm or cold on pancakes, waffles, toast or warm breads. Store refrigerated.
