Spiritual Gardening
 By Danita Henry

Imagine having a house with a big, beautiful yard. The grass is plush and green and you feel like you are in heaven when you walk on it. When you first moved in, you picked the weeds, mowed the lawn and planted pretty flowers. As the weeks went by, you began to neglect your yard. You may pick a dandelion or two, but you stopped making improvements. You reason with yourself that it’s your yard and you can do what you want, winter is coming anyway. You don’t pay attention to your yard until it’s covered with weeds, the grass is dead and spring is approaching.

Your life is the same way. It’s not until your spirit is overcome with “weeds? that you notice there is something wrong. There is an old saying that you never realize what you had until its gone. You never miss your physical, emotional or spiritual strength until it’s been impaired. When turmoil occurs, we tend to let it take over our life by ignoring the real issue at hand. We all have, at one time or another ignored a problem hoping that it goes away and it comes back with a vengeance. If you let one spiritual dandelion pop up and leave it alone, others will follow right behind it. Prayer and meditation is like weed killer for the spirit, we should use it at the first sign of neglect.

We must tend to our inner gardens or we will find ourselves overwhelmed by these emotional and spiritual weeds. Don’t ever stop taking care of your spiritual garden just because someone or something visits your yard. Be careful about who you allow to plant seeds in your garden. You are the gardener and gatekeeper. It is up to you to plant determination daffodils, triumphant tulips, honesty orchids, success roses and positive perennials. You must constantly nurture those plants and add others to complement the good things in your garden. You can even add a fountain of knowledge and prosperity, so that those things are constantly flowing in your life. The fruits of your labor will be a plentiful harvest of personal satisfaction and peace of mind.

Be blessed
