On February 14-15, 1945 the Allied forces of America and Britain sent air forces to attempt to destroy all human life in the city of Dresden in Germany. The result of their attack created a tornado of fire that killed up to 250,000 defenseless mostly women, children, the elderly, and even thousands of Allied P.O.W.'s. This attack was carried out even though the German military forces were already clearly defeated and WWII in Europe was essentially over.

"You guys burnt the place down, turned it into a single column of flame. More people died there in the firestorm, in that one big flame, than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined." --Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

The horror of Dresden and other cities that the Allied forces used "Terror Attacks"<their own term for it> was such a senseless waste of human life.  I jsut shudder at the thought of the hypocrisy of the U.S. and things our country has done in the name of preserving freedon and world peace.  In most cases they are jsut blatant lies. anyhow...

Yes it's quite ironic that we're engaged in a 'war on terror' and are allegedly out hunting weapons of mass destruction considering that America and Britain in the past have been extravagant users of  both terror and WMD's.....

'Dresden was a dead city- everything was burnt'

Sixty years ago today, British and American bombers turned 'Florence on the Elbe' into a fireball, killing 35,000 people. Luke Harding talks to one survivor of the controversial raid

America and Britain unleashed one of history's most notorious acts of terrorism on the city of Dresden on February 14-15th, 1945. It made what happened on 9-11 look like child's play. --L.B.

(4) Margaret Freyer was living in Dresden during the firestorm created on 13th February, 1945.
The firestorm is incredible, there are calls for help and screams from somewhere but all around is one single inferno.
To my left I suddenly see a woman. I can see her to this day and shall never forget it. She carries a bundle in her arms. It is a baby. She runs, she falls, and the child flies in an arc into the fire.
Suddenly, I saw people again, right in front of me. They scream and gesticulate with their hands, and then - to my utter horror and amazement - I see how one after the other they simply seem to let themselves drop to the ground. (Today I know that these unfortunate people were the victims of lack of oxygen). They fainted and then burnt to cinders.
Insane fear grips me and from then on I repeat one simple sentence to myself continuously: "I don't want to burn to death". I do not know how many people I fell over. I know only one thing: that I must not burn.

'Shock and awe', circa 1945... The US govt likes to style itself as the 'good guys' while committing the worst crimes it attributes to it's enemies of any given era.

The Dresden terror bombing is a very solemn reminder of this reality.
