This thread is dedicated to something really important:  helping Ray Ray to get better.  Let's come here to wish Ray well, and to support him.  All of us working together can make a difference, yes we can!

I visited Ray on Saturday (yesterday), and he was in good spirits.  But he has severe Pancreatitis, and cannot eat or drink anything.  If even a drop of water enters his stomach, it causes him great pain.  So he's getting fed through a tube, and he has attacks of pain every day, which must truly suck.  But he can get up and walk around, and does so for a half hour every day.  The nurses take good care of him.  He has lost a lot of weight, but is still around 115.

He needs a DVD player, and maybe a laptop (which would be great, cause then he could chat with us), because watching TV all the time is getting way old for him.  He hates commercials (who doesn't?).  Of course, if you can send him a card, please feel free to do so, his mailing address is:

Patient Ray Hanna
Loma Linda Medical Center
Suite 6100
11234 Anderson Street
Loma Linda, CA 92354

I know some of you have already sent cards, good for you!

His room phone is 909-558-4000, ext. 46626

Once he gets out, he plans to never watch TV again, there is so much else to do in life. He is really committed to taking care of himself and making the most of his future.

Ray's doctors say that they will be able to operate on him and cut out the cyst on his pancreas, and the dead part of his pancreas, in aboot 6 weeks, not 3 months.  So that is good news. But the bad news is that he'll be stuck in that hospital for at least two more months.  Mickey his wife is having a hard time being alone, but she comes to visit him every day.  The nurses are all nice, and he's at a fine hospital.

Despite all this, he was in good spirits, and was so happy to hear from us.  Lindy and Jimbo call him often.  Some of y'all even said a prayer with him (could someone re-post that here?).

Ray's message to you all is that he misses you and wishes he could post on the board with all of us.  He'll be back in action soon, though, and we'll be having an awesome Booze Cruise with him & Mickey!!

Grateful Dead alums plan first tour in 5 years

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It looks like the old Dead are gettin' on. And look where they are starting the tour!!

Surviving members of the Grateful Dead say they'll regroup for a 19-city tour, their first since 2004, beginning April 12 in Greensboro, N.C.

The group, which now just calls itself The Dead, announced its plans Thursday.

Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful October benefit concert in Pennsylvania for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Warren Haynes joins the Dead on lead guitar, and Jeff Chimenti will play keyboards.
