NCIS There are some dark days ahead for Ducky. Executive Producer Shane Brennan reveals to me exclusively that the Ducky gets stabbed in an episode airing early next year. The incident will launch David McCallum head first into a powerful story that reveals a side to Ducky no one knows about - not even Gibbs. “David puts in an astonishingly powerful and moving performance in this episode,?raves Brennan. “It’s a story I first talked about with David almost two years ago. It’s been a long time coming, but well worth the wait.?/P> |

Never mind ripping off Cloverfield, the emergence of future Superman murderer Doomsday or the last-minute reappearance of a long-lost villain; the best moment of last Thursday's Smallville came in the promo for what's coming up on the show when it returns in January next year. Why? Because it gave us our first chance to see the show's take on the Legion of Super-Heroes, and we never could resist teenage superheroes from the future. Episode writer Geoff Johns, who's currently writing the characters in the Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds series from DC Comics, explained the genesis of bringing the 31st century superteens into the CW's angst-ridden drama: ‘Smallville?had been featuring Green Arrow for some time, and Black Canary and Cyborg and Bart Allen had made appearances, and since the Legion is such a big part of the Superman mythology from when he was younger, I had an idea to introduce them into the ‘Smallville?world too... I was casually talking to [former ‘Smallville?producer] Jeph Loeb one day, who obviously knows the showrunners ?Darren, Todd, Kelly and Brian ?and he mentioned it to them that I had an idea for an episode. They called me up and were pretty excited to hear it. So I pitched them the idea of the Legion and how it affected Clark and what it would mean to the characters in the series. And they loved it. I spent a couple weeks in the writers?room with them breaking the story and working on the script and then flew up for the shoot. So that’s how it all came together. It was really pretty amazing. As a longtime Legion geek, I have to admit that I love the call-out each character's outfit has to their comic book version, even if it it also makes them look pretty ridiculous as well. Johns is optimistic that they'll be successful enough to make a return appearance: I can tell you the door is left open pretty wide for them and other Legionnaires. If there’s a Season 9, I would love to write another episode. As long as you're going to have some version of this scene, Geoff? You can bring them back whenever you want. The "Legion" episode of Smallville airs on January 15th at 8pm on the CW. |

Smallville: There's some speculation that the Legion of Super Heroes will teach Clark to fly. Some casting sides for episode 8x15, "Infamous," have turned up, and they're pretty insane. Clark gets outed as the alien who's behind the "blue blur" who's been saving people. (One random person on TV questions, early on, why the "blue blur" didn't save her husband who died in an accident recently.) It sounds as though Linda Lake, returning to write for the Daily Planet, plays a role in outing Clark. And Clark finally comes clean, but then his life becomes very complicated. Lois gets charged with treason, and Clark has to rescue her from some agents. Clark volunteers to answer the government's questions, but then a government scientist wants to do tests on him. People start mobbing him and demanding autographs, and one woman jumps out her window just so Clark can catch her and save her. Clark can't go anywhere or do anything. Chloe gets mobbed by reporters, and when Jimmy's injured the hospital won't let Jimmy come in because of the crushing media attention a friend of Clark brings. Meanwhile, Davis is back working as a paramedic, and he gets a bit of notice because he knows Chloe. Also, Davis gets caught sneaking out some thorazine, which is used to treat multiple personalities. He's desperate to control the beast within |

Smallville: The identity of the villain that Clark and the Legion Of Super Heroes will face in the Jan. 15 episode? The Persuader. Says writer Geoff Johns: "He’s this futuristic assassin, he’s dressed like an executioner, and he has one of the coolest weapons, an axe that could slice an atom in half. He can slice Clark, so he can slice anything." Dude! Also, the show will have built up to a huge climax in the Doomsday/Chloe storyline, and then the Legion shows up and complicates everything further. The show is full of Legion mythology, but is friendly to casual viewers. It asks questions like: "Do you make your own destiny? Is it written in stone? Do your heroes live up to your expectatons?" |

TNT Brings 'Leverage' on Sunday Night TNT has always been an abode for shows that features female actresses portraying tough, flawed police officers just like in The Closer and Saving Grace. However, the network is attempting a different approach with its new action-packed series, Leverage, which has an Oscar winner at the center. On Sunday, December 7, Timothy Hutton will return to our small screens to headline the modern day Robin Hood drama following his lead role in the NBC short-lived series, Kidnapped. Leverage, which has been given a 13-episode order by the network, revolves around a team of thieves, hackers and grifters who are crusading for truth and justice. Nathan Ford (Hutton) serves as the leader of the motley crew who is determined to take revenge against the rich and powerful companies and individuals who strike against the needy. On Sunday's opener, viewers will learn more about Nathan's back story as his own insurance company denies the medical help that could have save his son's life. Haunted by the death of his son and the failure of his insurance company to cover his extensive medical bills, he puts together a group of thieves to con them back. " Leverage is great entertainment," Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the content creation group for TNT, TBS and TCM, said in a statement. "It's fast-paced, smart and just great fun. Dean Devlin directed the pilot to perfection. Timothy Hutton is outstanding, and he and the cast around him have a great chemistry. This is a new genre for us in our series efforts, and it's great to be able to tackle it with Dean. His Librarian movies for TNT have been huge successes. We couldn't be happier having him and John Rogers bring that same sense of style and storytelling to us in series form." Aside from Hutton, who is credited for Ordinary People, A Nero Wolfe Mystery and Digging to China, the cast also includes Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. Following its commercial-free debut on Sunday at 10pm, Leverage is moving to its 10pm Tuesday slot starting December 9. |

A Death on 'Supernatural' There are plenty of great episodes ahead for Supernatural, with magicians, high schools and Dean driving a Prius (more on that last one can be heard in our upcoming exclusive interview with writer Sera Gamble). Kristin at E!Online recently got word on another episode that features Dean and Sam posing as ghosts to uncover the sudden death of reapers. The big news Kristin has today is that in this episode, “a character we know and love dies.?While she doesn't reveal who ths mystery death is, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out because, as any Supernatural fan knows, there aren't a whole lot of characters we “know and love.?It definitely takes Ruby out of the running. My first hunch is that Kristin is using a bit of trickery. Since the boys pose as ghosts, maybe they have a spell that lets them die so they can become ghosts, but then be brought back to life after it's over. Except for this possibility, I think we can all safely assume Dean or Sam won't be the one to die. If it's a real death, the odds have to be against Uncle Bobby. It's hard to find a more beloved character who could actually be killed off without dramatically harming the show. Part of me would love to see Bobby die only because, from a storytelling perspective, it would be very emotional and propel Dean and Sam into some newer, darker places. On the other hand, it might be too hard to let go of such a great character who can pop in all the time. Supernatural has such a small ensemble that thinking of another “character we know and love?is no easy task. Other than Bobby or one of the Winchesters, I'm not sure I'd be that sad to see any other character die. Unless, of course, Kristin is using the term “character?loosely. In the eyes of many Supernatural fans, there is another major character that is just as essential to the shows success as Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. Naturally, I'm referring to the Impala. Dean's car is usually the third star of the show, and the Impala has been around for a long time and it's seen a lot of action, so having it fall apart wouldn't be such a stretch. The bigger problem would be how could Dean fix it up, because if Supernatural actually killed the Impala, I suspect fans would react as if they gave Jared a buzz cut. Which character do you think Kristin is talking about? Supernatural returns with new episodes on January 15. |
