History
Riss grew up in Starfleet. His father was a decorated officer. His mother was an Asst. Chief Medical Officer. He was born on Bolarus IX, but grew up aboard the Sparta. Riss took an almost instant liking in science, spending many a day going from science lab to science lab learning from the crew. He took a special liking in Xenobiology. When he was 7, his mother died of a long running illness. He eventually got over her death and continued with his learning. When he was 18, he returned to Bolarus IX to begin a formal science traning. It was while he was there that he learned of his father's death on an away mission. Riss almost immedately boarded a transport for Earth and enrolled in the academy, where he graduated at 4th in his class. He studied Anthropology, Planetary Science and Xenobiology. His baby brother, Theris, then enlisted in Starfleet and became an engineer. He had been an engineer back on Bolarus. After graduation, Riss took an assignment aboard the Galaxy Class USS Exeter, where he served as a Science Officer. He served there for a year and then was transferred to USS Intrepid.
