Synopsis of Events:  Fate of the Infected (Mission to Munitalp)

Admiral Garren has contacted Captain Venger, with a priority message to respond to a distress call of the planet Munitalp.  The reason for the distress call is not clear.  A meeting with the senior staff is held to inform them of the situation and for feedback.  The meeting ends with everyone ready for what might be.

The Hazard Team will be dispatched to the planet after hails.  They prepare for the mission.  The Intrepid arrives within sensor range of the planet, the ship began hails but there was no response.  Sweeps of the planet gave no answer as to what was going on with the planet, at the least they knew that no other vessels were in range.  Seeing no other alternative the Hazard Team has officially been dispatched to the planet and yellow alert has been called.

On the planet's surface, the Hazard Team encounters Emulov, an administrator.  He shows them what is happening to his planet.  A disease has been spreading that turns people into gelatenous blobs in the final stages.  The numbers of the infected are rising and three members of the team have become it's latest victims.

Meanwhile, the ship has been experiencing its own crisis.  A conduit exploded in the lounge mortally wounding Commander Christopher Knox and slightly injuring a few others.  The explosion almost took another life during the after effects, when Ensign Hawke took a risk to avoid a plasma explosion.  He was transported to Sick Bay by Petty Officer Breanna O'Malley and was treated.  A couple of hours later Hawke was released from Sick Bay.

The situation on the planet is getting worse, as the disease advances in McDowle.  The rest of the team is trying to hold up as best as they can.  Luckily the Intrepid may have found a clue that could help find a cure.

The cause of the explosion is investigated, leading to the discovery of verteron particles.  It took a little time but they figured out the verterons came from a microwormhole that was excited by a subspace shunt that most likely came from the planet.  The shunt was designed to tap into the computer records, presumably to find a cure.  All of this could mean more trouble to the Hazard Team because this information indicates an enemey operative on the planet's surface.

Efforts for a cure have been underway, one shows particular promise.  Eventually the first batch of the cure was ready.  It will be distributed to the Hazard Team and then to a few of the citizens, to test it's effectiveness.  The initial results showed that Lt Kelvari's cure was working as well as expected.  Once the Hazard Team was back on board, the cure was administered to the entire planet.  No enemy operative was ever discovered.

Soon after, the ship's alert status was reduced from yellow alert and the Captain changed course to the planet Munitalpa, which is the one responsible for the disease.  A couple of days later, the ship arrived at Munitalpa to discover a shocking site.  Dozens of space craft were found drifting and scans of the vessels and planet revealed no lifesigns, only bio matter.  Further scans revealed that the disease had somehow overtaken their atmosphere.

Before resuming course, the Intrepid left a buoy as a warning to anyone who may come by.  A warning not just for the disease but also as a warning of the dangers of hate, revenge, and bioterrorism.  It is an unfortunate reminder that hate not only can destroy enemies but it can consume ourselves.
