Early into alpha shift, the USS Intrepid hums with gentle activity of the ships systems.  The past few days have been rather quiet and the crew has taken the opportunity to relax, others making repairs, or some other pursuit.

Captain Venger stands looking out the window of her ready room.  For some reason, this is one view she has never tired of, as if the stars have powers that many have been captured with.  The previous days have been a refreshing break, although she has spent some time avoiding the councelor.

=/\= Bridge to Captain Venger.  Priority communication from Starfleet Command.

=/\= Understood, patch it through here.

Turning around, she sat down in her chair and activated the computer screen.  Vice Admiral Garren's image appeared on it.

=/\= Greetings Admiral, it is good to see you again

=/\=As it is to see you, Jess.  However, I wish it were under better circumstances

=/\=What exactly are those circumstances?

=/\=Not long ago we were contacted by the government of Munitalp with a distress call.  Unfortunately the message was very brief and we haven't been able to determine what is going on there.  Since you are the closest ship, with the best capabilites, to the planet you are to change your course immediately.

=/\= Understood Admiral, Venger out.

=/\=Captain Venger to the Bridge.  Change course to the planet Munitalp, warp 8 and have the senior staff meet me in the conference room in 15 minutes.

(sorry i haven't been posting, i've been recovering from multi. surgeries.)
Surprising that Lt. Borguard has lasted this long, Lt. Keyes injects him with anti virus serum. he mourns a little as he feels the effects. he turns his head to Keyes. "hey Lt, can you get me a cigarette?" he asked in a joking matter.

"File 93432-3?" questioned Breanna, since she wasn't familiar with that particular number.

"Ear plugs," Hawke said with a grin. "Used to have them aboard the ol' Damsel when the crew parties started to get really out of hand."

"You know, I wouldn't have guessed that about you.  I would have thought you more of the life or the center of the party."  As she spoke they both stood up and began to head out of the lounge.  When they were starting to go their seperate ways, an intruder alert sounded over the ship.

"Here they go again."  She said alound.

"Never a dull moment eh?" Hawke inquired.

"I guess not."

Out of no where, the intruder alert sounded but almost as quickly as it came it was off again.  It was exactly what a group of people close enough to the edge needed to hear.

"Sorry, Captain," said the ops officer, "I changed the status by mistake."

Before the captain could respond to the ops officer's statement, the ship was contacted by the Hazard Team.  =/\= Keyes to Intrepid, we're all doing better down here except for Borguard; but he's on his way to a better recovery. We're administering it to the people around here. =/\=

=/\= Since there are only a couple of treatments for the citizens themselves, I want you to monitor their condition for about 15 minutes.  I want to make sure it works correctly before we administer it to the planet.  Try to keep an eye on the team as well, remember you may still be in danger. =/\=

At this point, many people on the Bridge relaxed a little bit; they had passed the first hurdle.  Something else could happen but at least the Hazard Team was would able to deal with it.

Dr. Thompson was still in the science lab working with the others to make the second batch of the cure, which would cure the planet.  Everyone was waiting to here how the first batch had worked out.

There was little doubt that it would work, the testing stage had been very effective.  He could understand why the captain was being so cautious though, they couldn't afford to make many mistakes.

A few minutes after they had sent down the first batch, they finally got word that so far the cure was effective for the Hazard Team itself, but they would have to wait a little longer to hear about the results from the citizens.  It was certainly good news.

The bridge officer stumbled his way through an apology and Hawke's mouth quirked into a grin. Breanna was still there, having decided to stick around for a bit.

"Well, false alarm I see," Hawke said. "Well, I was hoping for a little action but none today I suppose."

Breanna looked at him with a surprised expression.

<Breanna>

"Well it's just that I get bored if I sit still for too long. Hmm, maybe the captain's got something for me to do. You want to come along?"

<Breanna>

Breanna replied, "You mean that a conduit explosion, a near death situation, a microwormhole, verteron particles, and an engineered disease wasn't enough excitment for you?"

"Well it's just that I get bored if I sit still for too long. Hmm, maybe the captain's got something for me to do. You want to come along?"

"No, no...  I've had enough action for awhile.  Actually the most action I would like to see over the next couple of days would be reading tech manuals.  If I were you I would call it quits till tomorrow, which will be here before you know it."

"A cigarette? Come now," Keyes replied to Borguard with a laugh.

Roughly half an hour went by and the team had administered the cure to a few people and the results were good. Borguard was back on his feet and in the process of recovery.

Looking over the readouts from the nanites on the surface, Lt. Kelvari smiles, pleased with the results, before turning to the rest of the medical crew.

"Everyone," he says," if I may have your attention for just a moment, I would like to inform you of our progress on the surface."
 :
Pressing a few buttons on the mini-display at the terminal, he gets a large projection on the main wall. "As you all can see, we are meeting with an astounding 94.6% elimination rate on the first pass. The virus doesn't stand a chance against the nanites."

=/\= "Lt. Kelvari to Capt. Venger, we're receiving feedback from the nanites on the surface, indicating over 94% elimination rate. Requesting permission for part 2 of the cure."

The reports from the team below were good.  While everyone was waiting, the team had been transmitting their own bio readings as well as those they had tested with the cure.  Both Sick Bay and the Lt. Kelvari's science lab had been reviewing the data and reported back to the Captain positively.  It has worked just as well as Lt Kelvari had predicted.

There had been a time earlier when it looked like they were getting no where.  The team was getting infected and dieing along with the millions of people on the planet.  Right at the worst Kelvari had come up for an idea of a cure and thankfully it worked.

Now they could finally bring the team back.  =/\= Captain Venger to the Hazard Team.  Prepare to beam back to the ship.  Whenever you are ready you can return.  Have Lt. Boruard or Keyes report back to me once you are on board.  We are all looking forward to seeing you all again.  Venger out. =/\=

It only took the team a few minutes to wrap things up on the planet.  Once the transporter room reported them finally back on board, Captain Venger granted Lt. Kelvari's request to initiate the second part of the cure.

=/\= Aye, sir. =/\=

"Alright guys, get your gear rounded up. We're going home."

It wasn't too long before the Hazard Team had all their gear rounded up and everyone had said their goodbyes.

=/\= Hazard team, this is Intrepid. We're going to transport you to sick bay as a precaution. =/\=

=/\= Understood. =/\=

The team was soon materialized in the sick bay. The doctor on duty approached Keyes, "We're going to keep Borguard here over night for observation since he was the only one on the team who got the worst of it. The rest of you, on the other hand, are free to go."

"Thanks, doc," with that, Keyes and the team made their way to Haz Ops and got unpacked.

"Stand down yellow alert," Captain Venger told the Bridge crew.  "Helm, set course for the planet Munitalpa, warp 6.  In the meantime, continue to monitor the reports from the planet on the cure.  If anyone should need me, I'll be in my ready room."

As she entered her ready room, she was sure that the Bridge was surprised she had ordered them to Munitalpa.  After all, those were the people responsible for the disease, what could she have in mind?  There was no way that the ship could take on an entire planet.  She was certain they had questions, Starfleet probably would too, but something inside her told her that she needed to go there.

She sat down behind her desk.  She was tired but there were other things that needed to be taken care of at the moment.  Reports had to be made, the situation still needed to be monitored, and she was going to have a talk with Starfleet Command about her latest decision... While everyone else might rest there were times when a Captain's work was never done.

"Suit youself," Hawke said. "See you around." Breanna gave him a nod and she headed off down the corridor, presumably back to her quarters.

It was then that Hawke realized how tired he himself was. Add the fact that he had been injured quite severely just a while back, Hawke decided that it would be a good idea if he took some time off.

He headed back down to his place and climbed into his hammock. Although not really intending it, he soon drifted off.

Lt. Kelvari watched as the second part of the cure - the airburst nanite-carrying torpedoes - proceeded, watching an overlay of the anticipated results versus the real results.

The readouts showed that the cure was progressing slightly slower, and with some variance due to wind patterns, but still at a steady rate.

It had been an hour since the team finally got home from the ordeal. Keyes had taken a shower and proceeded to his quarters. He had found himself on the sofa writing up a report of the events that took place on the surface. Something caught his eye outside the nearby window. He saw it was one of the torpedoes with the cure inside of it. He watched it make its way into the lower atmosphere and explode sending the cure all around that atmosphere. He turned back and walked over to his desk and finished the report and submitted it.

After a few moments had passed, Keyes turned on his computer and began reading messages. A message from Starbase 126 was at the beginning stating that is personal Danube class shuttle (the ones from DS9) had arrived. It took some string pulling, but he managed to get a hold of his own shuttle. Now explaining it to the captain may be a different story.

The ship had been quiet the past couple of days, as they made their way to the planet Munitalpa and whatever awaited them.  The Hazard Team and several members of the science and medical staff who worked on the cure were granted time off until they reached their destination.  Those who didn't have time off continued to monitor reports coming in from the planet or just went about their normal duties.  However, just because the ship seemed quiet didn't mean the it was peaceful.  Tension simmered under the surface, which wasn't helped by the Captain's mood....

=/\= Captain, we will be arriving at Munitalpa shortly

=/\= Understood, Venger out. =/\=  Captain Venger emerged from her ready room a few minutes later.  She had been in there for a few hours, after another night with little sleep.  It was good to see the Bridge in order.  She sat down in her chair and ordered the view screen on.

"Have we recieved any communications from the planet questioning our arrival?" she questioned.

"No, not yet," replied the ops officer.

"Tactical, raise shields."

In a couple mintues, the ship slowed down to impulse, revealing a surprising scene.  Dozens of other crafts floated adrift in space; none of them appeared damaged.  "What do scans indicate happened to these vessels?"

"I'm not sure Captain.  There appears to be no internal or external damage to most of them and very few of them have raised sheilds.."  He paused for a moment, "Captain... no life signs are detected on board."

"All stop," called Captain Venger.  "Scan the planet, launch a probe if necessary."

It seemed like a long wait for the report on the planet to come in.  "Captain, scans are indicating the same atmospheric readings we found on Munitalp.  There is a difference though, the disease has completely taken it over...  I'm not seeing any indication of lifesigns, although I am picking up readings of biomatter, similar to what we saw in the final stages of the disease on Munitalp."

Something had obviously gone wrong here.  The bioweapon they had intended for Munitalp had somehow been released on their own world and led to their extinction.  At the beginning of this mission, many had wondered at the fate of the infected; would they die or would they survive.  Now they could see.  The fate of those infected, infected with hate, revenge, and maybe even greed was clear.  They were the cause of their own demise.

"Leave a warning buoy here and return us to our previous course."
