The ship's systems hum gently as the Intrepid travels through space to Starbase Atlantis, headquarters of Odyssey Fleet.  Admiral Garren has called a meeting of all capable ships within the fleet.  The reason for the meeting is not clear but this sort of thing has happened before.

As usual, Captain Venger was at work in her ready room, filling out reports over some recently completed missions.  Before the ship was called to Atlantis, they had recently completed a cargo delivery to the Eromsa Colony.

It was a standard mission but she felt that the Intrepid had better things to do... The cargo was delivered to the colony on time.  Perhaps you will see it fit to send the Intrepid on a mission to remove the hangnail of the Prime Minister of Talos VII, knowing that it is the sort of mission to suit the ship's talents...  I can't send that to Starfleet Command, she thought as she cleared the entry.  If she did they would send her to counciling for sure.

That thought made her stop and think.  The ship would again be without a chief councelor since Lt Commander Greyhorse recently announced that he is dieing of a terminal illness.  Normally, she wouldn't mind being without a councelor, however the circumstances of this case were different.  Besides that, Carter was a friend and would soon be another one gone to the forces beyond control.  So many were gone now....

She sighed and was ready to turn back to the reports when she recalled another matter that had to be attended to.  =/\= Hawke, report to my ready room immediately.

After the ship had docked, John left his station and made his way to his quarters. He was surprised to see that the turbo lifts were working fine, even after all the abuse that the Intrepid just went through.

John entered his quarters. His quarters looked better than the bridge, but not by much. Nothing was burned, just broken stuff that had fallen. He would clean it all up later; there was going to be enough time for that. He took a quick shower and got cleaned up, put on a fresh uniform, and exited his quarters and began to help out with repairs.

The numbers were in... 26 dead and 150 injured, though most of them were minor cases. Captain Venger had been in Sick Bay for about an hour, talking with the patients, discussing different things with themedical staff, and then she was taken to the bodies of those lost.

It was always a difficult experience for any starship captain.  No one ever wanted to lose anyone under their command but it will always remain an unfortunate fact for any leader.  After leaving Sick Bay, it was easy to see that the repairs to the ship were underway.

Assuming she would be contacted if needed, she went to her quarters.  She found them in a state of disarray, but that was to be expected.  She took out a bottle from her secret stash and poured herself a glass of the liquid.  Sitting at her desk she took a drink and then began working on the necessary reports and letters....

(OCC:  If anyone has something to post to wrap up events relating to this mission, try to do so in about a week.  After that time we will be starting a new mission in the year 2415.)

With the last of the wounded taken care of Hawke decided to head to his Jeffries tube junction. There he stripped out of his bloodstained uniform and took a fast shower. The engineers had helped him rig up a small sonic shower stall in there out of the way of anything vital.

Finished with his shower, he headed for the lounge and got a beer from the bar. He turned and saw Breanna staring out one of the windows.

She looked a little worn, he came up behind her and asked, "Are you alright?"

Breanna had been lost in her own world when Hawke come from behind, so she was a little startled when he asked, "Are you alright?"

She turned to look at him.  "Yeah... I'm fine, just a little bit tired.  It's been a long day."  As she spoke, Hawke moved around the table and sat across from her.  She attempted to direct the conversation away from her and asked, "What about you?  Are you alright?"  Staying in Sick Bay for as long as he had couldn't have been easy.

Lt Commander Borguard getting patched up after a few minor injuries that occurred during the battle. after he was let go he goes back to his quarters to change into his other uniform. Then he quickly leaves his quarters to help with minor repairs.

Mean while Lt. JG Pointon was busy in engineering trying to repair whatever he could. He was definitely up to his ears in work.

Having handed in his report to Captain Venger, Jayden heads up to his quarters to take a quick shower as the battle had definitely taken its toll, and he wanted the scent of blood and death off of him as quickly as possible. Upon arriving at his quarters, though, he found a message waiting for him from the Dragon.

"To: Cdr. Jayden Kelvari
Fr: FADM Vajyyk
Re: Important meeting ASAP

Commander,

Now that the battle is over, there is some un-finished business to tend to. Please return to the Dragon as soon as possible for an important meeting. And be sure to wear your best uniform.

Fleet Admiral Lace Vajyyk."

Letting out a sigh of defeat, Jayden takes a quick shower and dresses in his best Orphen uniform before catching the next shuttle over to the Dragon. Stepping out as the shuttle lands, he's surprised to see what appears to be the entire crew of the Dragon standing on either side of the flight deck. "What's going on here?" he asks, only to hear a reply from the far end of the flight deck.

"Commander Jayden Kelvari, of the Orphen Alliance, you are hereby charged with showing courage and dedication above and beyond the call of duty in an effort to strengthen ties between the Orphen Alliance and the United Federation of Planets.... How do you plead?"

"I plead guilty as charged on all accounts."

"In that case, it is my honorable duty to award you, on behalf of the Orphen Alliance, the Pewter Planet."

As the Fleet Admiral makes his way towards Jayden, the flight deck is so quiet that the faint buzzing of the lighting is the only sound that can be heard, save the clicking of the Fleet Admiral's boots on the flight deck. Stopping in front of Jayden, he holds out a blue felt-covered box with the Alliance's logo emblazoned upon it. "Congratulations," he says as Jayden takes it and the flight deck erupts into thunderous applause.

It had been a few hours since the battle came to an end. John had helped in the beginnings of repairs. The Intrepid would probably be docked in Atlantis for the next week and a half before she was fully operational again.

He had prepared a full report for the captain entailing all actions performed before, during, and after the battle. It wasn't long before he was back on the bridge and at the captains ready room door. He pressed the call button on the door and waited for her response.

Captain Venger was sitting behind her desk, leaning against her hand and in the process writing when she heard the tone at the door.  Without looking up she called, "Come"

Keyes walked into the room and stood before her desk <Keyes>

She looked up as he began speaking and accepted the report he handed her.  She glanced over it and was silent for a couple of minutes.  Just as he was thinking that he might be free to go, she said, "John, please sit down."

She looked tired, as she leaned back in her chair and began speaking "I'm sure you have noticed that Commander Anderson, over the past year, has often been called away for some special operations by Starfleet.  I have been informed that this will most likely continue for some time."

"Bearing that in mind, in the best interests of the ship and crew, I believe it is necessary to appoint a new first officer who would better fulfill the demands of that job... John, you have served with me on the Intrepid for quite some time now.  I believe that you are the best person for this job, if you accept it."

"I'll be alright," Hawke said. "It's been a while since I've had to patch people together, but I think I'll be fine."

For a while, they just stared out at the other ships in the dock.

"What do you think's going to happen now Breanna?" Hawke asked.

Breanna sighed, "I don't really know... It certainly won't be the last we see of the Attrexians.  These kinds of battles, for Intrepid and all of Starfleet could become a common occurance.  I don't think anyone really likes the whole idea of it all... Who knows when the next attack might be."

John walked into the room and extended the report to the captain.  She took it as he began to speak.

"Captain, here is the damage report, and all repairs that are currently underway around the ship."

Just as he was thinking that he might be free to go, she said, "John, please sit down."

He couldnt believe what he had heard.  John was glad that he was sitting down cause he probably would have fallen over and onto the floor.

After a moment of silence and disbelief, John stood up, "Yes, sir, I accept the job."  He shook her hand in acceptance.

All of these years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, he had achieved something that no one in his family had ever achieved in its history.  In the end, he still couldnt believe it, but was in full acceptance.

Captain Venger was glad he accepted the job.  "You have earned it John."

After a brief moment, allowing it all to sink in for him, she said, "Now, I suggest that you go and get some rest.  You have a long day ahead of you tomorrow.  I will, of course, be sending you some reports and documents, as well as starting to inform you on other things that you will need to know."

"Aye sir." John left the captains ready room and made his way back to his quarters. They were still in disarray, but he'll get around to picking it up. He get ready for bed and soon found himself slipping away. Before too long, he was asleep. It was amazing that his excitement didn't keep him awake.

Early the next day Captain Venger made her way through the halls of the starbase to reach Admiral Garren's office.  All of the ships  had submitted at least one report regarding the battle.  The reports, the loses... everything would have to be reviewed at some point in time.

The meeting was pretty much what she had expected.  All the ships had encountered high amounts of damanges and lost more lives than anyone would have liked.  Due to  the damages sustained, all of the ships would remain at Starbase Atlantis for at least a week, which would also provide a chance for the crews to rest and regroup themsleves.

Everyone was certainly wondering where things were going to go from here.  At the least, it would be easy to say things probably weren't going to get better soon.  They hoped that they would be able to learn more from the Attrexians they had captured but that would take time.

Some interesting news was already arriving from Romulus, however.  The empire was beginning to destablize.  News of the defeat has inspired revolts on some areas of the planet.  It was quite humiliating for the people and those who haven't been happy with the current leadership are seizing the opportunity.  Will this new movement be successful?

Admiral Garren considered her next words carefully, "Jessie, considering the current situation on Romulus, Starfleet could use someone of your particular skills.  It could mean a new ear between us... It's something I would like you to think about."
