It had been a few months since the battle with the Attrexians had taken place.  Since then, life on the Intrepid largely seemed confined to patrolling.  Starfleet seemed certain that an attack would take place at any time; however the Intrepid hadn't really encountered anything of interest.  A couple other ships had experienced small skirmishes, but nothing that would confirm Starfleet's concerns.

The crew was responding to the situation in different ways:  many were simply becoming bored, while others were contantly nervous.  Captain Venger, however, seemed to be taking everything in stride.  In fact, to some it seemed like she was in a better mood than she had been before the battle.

Regardless, everyone seemed ready for a change in pace and Starfleet had finally decided to give them one.  Captain Venger was in her ready room reviewing the details for what they had in mind...

Riss handed the vial back to Captain Venger, having approved it's use.  He didn't think it would cure the problem but at the least would give him some relief.  Captain Venger walked back over to Stroud and bent down next to him.

"I need to get back to the ship..." Wes said.

"I know, and everybody is doing what they can.  We are going to get you back as soon as possible.  Until then we need you to hang on for us."

<Stroud>

"I've brought you something that should help you feel better.  I'm going to give you a little bit now and if that helps you feel better, I'll give you some more later."  Littlefeather, who had been nearby listening, came forward and helped adminster the medicine.  After a quick check of Stroud's condition with a tricorder, she stood back up and went back to check on Riss's progress.

All they could do now is wait... wait for Intrepid to come up for something, wait and see if Riss could manage a cure... just wait.

<Sorry I've been way too busy with school for the past little while>

Hawke did his best to keep his eyes off Breanna for the time being. Instead he concentrated on what he was supposed to be doing, which was at particular moment, keeping up the inventory on phaser rifles. Hawke made sure that the weapons were securely racked and stowed, their power packs disengaged but fully charged. He'd never gotten to like the Federation phaser rifle, it was way too complicated and underpowered for his tastes, he much preferred something simpler like a Romulan Disruptor.

Idly he wondered what the situation on the planet was like and he hoped that the weapons would stay safely where they where. He shook his head, with this crew, that was a forlorn hope. Danger cropped up everywhere they stuck their noses and bad guys just jumped out of every nebula. Hawke stole a glance towards Breanna and hoped that she wouldn't get hurt when it hit the fan.

One of the phaser packs was down to fifty percent, he made a note to take it down and have it recharged, for the time being he made a note in the inventory and slapped a warning tag on the weapon. The rifle would still fire, but it wouldn't last too long in a gunfight.

Breanna checked one more thing and made one more note before putting down her PADD and turning to Hawke.  She watched him for a moment, as he concentrated on his work.

She smiled and said, "I'm ready to go, what about you?"

"I know, and everybody is doing what they can. We are going to get you back as soon as possible. Until then we need you to hang on for us."

"Do you have a medkit? My leg is really starting to throb..." Stroud told the captain. He didn't know how much longer he was gong to be able to stand the agony he was in.

"I've brought you something that should help you feel better. I'm going to give you a little bit now and if that helps you feel better, I'll give you some more later." "When I get back to the ship, the first thing I'm doing, and this doesn't happen very often, is make a trip to Sickbay... and finally get this leg fixed..." Stroud thought to himself. He didn't know what to expect... so he decided he had to punt, and to cope with the pain he was in.

Hawke put the phaser he was testing back in the locker and turned to face Breanna.

"All done," he said. "Man, that was boring. I didn't there was a way to make guns dull, but guess that proves I'm not as smart as I thought."

<Breanna>

Hawke laughed gamely at her rejoinder.

"So, my schedule's clear, what did you want to do? Something exciting I hope?"

"I don't know... I was kind of hoping that you would think of something.  You were looking rather intent after all."

Sometimes it's funny how things just seem to spiral out of control, far beyond what anyone could ever imagine.  This mission had turned into something like that.  It was supposed to be relatively simple; of course, no one could have really predicted that the transporters would be blown out of use or that someone would be so severely injured.

Starship captain's never like it when things are so far beyond their control.  Captain Venger was in such a place now.  She knew that the Intrepid would do the best that it could to get them aid.  All they could do on the surface is wait and hope that the vial would work, that Riss could come up with a cure, or that the Intrepid could get here... They couldn't move him and they certainly couldn't further risk contamination of the locals.

The one thing she was determined to do was to keep Wes alive.  Every minute longer they waited mad that task more and more difficult.  Hopefully, they would be hearing an update from the Intrepid soon.

"Well, we got it working again. Good work," John said as he was wiping off some sweat off of his forehead. He walked over to a console in the bay.

=/\= Intrepid to Captain Venger. Are you in a safe place? =/\=

=/\= (Venger) =/\=

=/\= Sir, we have a way to get you out now. Commander Anderson came back in a shuttle that had seen some better days, but we repaired it and its back up and running. We can use it to get you guys out of there."

=/\= That's good go hear, I'm not sure how much longer Stroud can hold out down here.  Have you figured out a flight plan that will conceal the shuttle from as many natives as possible or something that would camoflage it in any way?

=/\= Well we will be waiting for you, good work.  Venger out =/\=

Captain Venger then moved back over to Stroud.  "Just hold on a little bit longer Wes."

=/\= Yes, sir. There is a storm moving in on the town you are in. It should be a good cover for us to move in and get you out. The shuttle should be able to make it through the storm without much of a problem. We will be sending it down shortly. =/\=

=/\= Well we will be waiting for you, good work. Venger out =/\=

Keyes left the bridge and made his way down to the shuttle bay. When he entered, he saw James checking over everything one last time.

"She's all ready to go for you," he said.

"Good," John paused for a moment, "I'd like you to come with me."

"Sure." With that, the two entered the shuttle.

"Pre-flight checks are complete; firing her up." The shuttle powered on and began to hover above the deck. A crewman nearby opened the shuttle bay doors. Keyes slowly backed the craft out of the bay. Before too long, he was out and clear of the Intrepid.

"What does the radar show on the captains position?"

"It looks like the strongest part of the storm is right over the town. Looks like we'll be getting a little bit of turbulence on the way down and back up. But we should be allright."

John flew the craft down into the storm. It was a bumpy ride that seemed to take forever. Before too long, Keyes saw the town and avoided it. Not too far out of town, John saw a group of people. He looked a little closer and realized that is was the team.

"Bringing her down for a landing," John said. The craft slowly landed down on the grass. The storm seemed to be getting stronger. It felt like with the wind being as fast as it was with all the rain, that it would pierce the hull of the shuttle.

John lowered the back hatch and saw the team moving towards it.

"Heard you could use a lift," he said while standing there. He ran out to help get a few people in. Once everyone was in, he raised the hatch and motioned James to take off. It was another long and bumpy ride back up, but was a safe trip.

He turned to the captain, "So, how was it down there, aside from Strouds injury?"

Captain Venger moved a wet strand of hair from her face as she responded, "From what I could tell, I can understand why Starfleet would be interested in them.  The planet itself is quite stunning, rich with resources... Their development would be quite intersting to monitor."

"What is the status of the Intrepid?"

"It would be," Keyes responded.

"What is the status of the Intrepid?"

"Repairs are still underway for the EPS conduits that ruptured earlier, but other than that, she is still the way you left her."

The shuttle made it safely back to the Intrepid, where a medical team was waiting to take Wes to Sickbay.  It was a relief to have him back on board, if they hadn't already determined a cure, it probably wouldn't take them very long to reach one.

Captain Venger was finally able to relax a little.  It had been a long day for everyone but she still had things to take care of.  The rest of the team also went to sickbay for an examination; however, they were not to remove their surgical enhancements until further advised.

After the others left, she turned to Keyes and said, "I'm going to get in touch with Starfleet to see how they want us to proceed from here.  I can't imagine them wanting us to continue in our current condition but you never know...  Go ahead and get some rest, it looks like you could use it."

Stroud's condition was pretty serious, but luckily Sickbay had been monitoring his condition.  Now with the team back on board, Dr. Thompson now had a chance to look at the wound in person and examin the materials that made the poison.  Being able to have tissue samples and the materials would help make certain that they would get the best results.

It had been a long day for all of the medical staff.  They were determined to help Stroud though, they did not want to lose a crew member.  Soon they began testing some of the ideas they had been working on with tissue samples.

About an hour later, Dr. Thompson administered a cure to Wes and begann monitoring its effects.  It seemed to be working fine.  He felt the tension leave his shoulders, believing that they had finally gotten Stroud through the worst of it.

=/\= Sickbay to Captain Venger, Stroud should be fine now, he will just need some time to rest

"Aye, sir." John left the shuttle bay and made his way to his quarters. He stepped in and sat down at his desk and sat back and relaxed. After a few moments, he got back up and took a quick shower. Once he was finished taking his shower and getting dressed, he finally jumped into bed and fell asleep.
