It had been a couple of days since the away team had returned from Nooma and the ship was still busy with repairs.  Of course, they really hadn't gotten very far and because of that, they would soon be heading off to a starbase for further assistance.  First, however, Mr. Riss needed to be returned to the planet's surface.

Riss would remain on the planet and continue to observe until the Intrepid returned to establish the observatory post.  It could be a tricky task, but he was the best person for it.  Captain Venger stood in the shuttle bay with him before he left for the surface.

"Remember, we won't be leaving for about another hour.  After that, I'm sure you are well aware of the limitations in contacting us."

"Of course, Captain,  I'll be sure to contact the ship if I have any immediat problems.  How long are the repairs expected to take?" replied Riss.

"I'm expecting the ship to be back here in about four days.  Do you have any other questions?"

"No sir, I think we have pretty much covered everything."

"Good Luck."  Riss soon entered the shuttle and Captain Venger watched it disembark before heading to the bridge.

Captain Venger began speaking, "It's nice to see all of you.  Commander Keyes tells me that you have all been performing very well during my absence  I'm also glad that you have all been able to receive a break and enjoy yourselves at DS9.  However, the time has come to seriously work on getting this ship and this crew back to our own time."

"That is why from this point forward, we will be limiting access to DS9.  No one shall be allowed to step foot on that station without permission from either Commander Keyes or myself.  I realize that all of you have done well in attempting to limit contamination to the past; however, we are reaching the point where the crew might start to become lax in their judgement.  I'm not willing to take any chances."

"Now, Commander Keyes has told me of his plan to return us back to the past.  I will allow him to explain it further, but first I would like to know if anyone had determined the exact cause of what brought us here"

<Senior Staff>

"And you believe that the problem has been completely fixed now?"

<Nick Colus>

"That's good to hear.  Commander, tell us your suggestion."

"That's good to hear. Commander, tell us your suggestion."

John got up from his seat after pressing a couple of buttons on the table. On the view screen, a diagram of the Enterprise E pointed towards a temporal vortex appeared.

"After much research and consideration, I have come to the conclusion that creating a temporal vortex will be our solution of getting home," John paused while the thought of the vortex sank into everyone's head. A second later, he tapped another button and several calculations appeared on the screen. John pointed at the top set of calculations, "This was the Enterprise E's formula for getting to and from 2063 Earth. It figures in the gravitational pull of the Earth and the moon, the mass of the Enterprise, and exact time and date that she disappeared."

John then pointed at the second set of calculations, "Now, for our calculations, we'll have to figure in Nooma's gravitational pull and its two moons. The rest is pretty much self explanatory. Any questions?"

No one moved, "Good. Captain," John took his seat again.

Nick chime's in, " Well, remember the transporter malfunction that we had? It started way back then. There was a build up in one of the conduits that caused the malfunction. We never really found the cause of that, well now we have. It was a type of telportal particles that our sensors could not detect. We must have passed through some sort of temporal sink hole a while back that saturated a few non vital systems with the particles. When we used the transporters there happened to be a build up that got set off. Well then they dissapated and slowly started building up in the warp core. All systems are linked there and they just kept getting filtered out and getting stuck there in the core. So when they got built up enough and we activated our warp drive those particles reacted with subspace in such a way, that in essence created a type of 'time bomb.' This massive force thrusted us back in time and we ended up where we are at now. There where a few residual particles left that we have managed to remove and isolate."

"And you believe that the problem has been completely fixed now?"

"From what I can tell yes. We have been running a few simulations and think that we may be able to get us back home without the particles interference"

"That's good to hear. Commander, tell us your suggestion."

"Since no one else seems to have any other ideas, we shall proceed from here.  Ensign Rye, I want you to work with both Engineering and Commander Keyes to help get us underway, but I first I want you to figure out the calcuations involving the gravitational pull.  Ensign Colus, I want you and Petty Officer O'Malley to return to Engineering and inform everyone of what we are working on.  Break everybody into groups and get started as soon as possible.  Are there any questions so far?"

<Staff>

"Hawke, you will need to be ready to pilot us through vortex.  You might want to go through the logs of the Enterprise E to see if they encountered any problems.  If there is nothing else, you area all dismissed."

John stood up and made his way out of the conference room. He stepped into a turbo lift and made his way down to engineering. In a matter of a few hours, John worked with Ensign Rye and the entire engineering crew to make sure that everything was all set and working at 110%. He stopped to look around at his team. John could tell that many of them were wanting to get home, and some were getting stressed out from being away from their own time and home. He thought for a moment; all of the work was done and everyone could use some rest before we got under way.

"Ok, everyone, we've all worked hard and put a honest days work in. So, thats why I am ordering you all to go back to your quarters to get some rest before we get under way. I want to make sure everyone is at their best to make sure things go smoothly. You are all dismissed," John said.

After a few moments, the engineering crew had left and a fresh skeleton crew entered. John did one last check on everything and left as well. He made his way to his quarters. After he had arrived, he grabbed a quick drink of iced water and took a quick nap.

Hawke nodded at the Captain.

So far no one had noticed his little sojurn to DS9 and he hoped that they would be quite done with the whole business by the time anyone did.

He saw Breanna looking over at him and gave her a smile. She blushed and went back to studying her padd intensely so that the Captain wouldn't notice.

Heading to his station, he began looking over the Enterprise logs. They were quite detailed, and he had little trouble figuring out what he needed.

Everything was going absolutely swimmingly and as such it was with a certain amount of disappointment that he heard, "DS9 Security to Intrepid."

"Crap," Hawke muttered.

Everything from the staff meeting seemed pretty straight forward, so now it was time to get moving on the plan.  Breanna and Nick returned to engineering promptly to get everything started.  It didn't take long for them to inform the other engineers of what was going on and to get started, everyone was eager to start on something other than repairs.

"How does this look?" someone asked her an hour or two later.  "It looks pretty good... expcept you are going to have to adjust this variable right here..."  Other than the occasional question, everything was running fairly smoothly.  Simulations were made regularly to make sure they were on the right track.

The had been working for quite some time when Keyes finally said, "Ok, everyone, we've all worked hard and put a honest days work in. So, thats why I am ordering you all to go back to your quarters to get some rest before we get under way. I want to make sure everyone is at their best to make sure things go smoothly. Breanna wrapped up a couple of things and explained what she had been working on someone on the next shift before returning to her quarters to rest.

After the meeting ended, Captain Venger watched as everyone else left the room.  One of the best features of the Conference Room was the view.  She often found herself there, thinking and staring out at whatever there was to behold.  Today was no different.  She wasn't sure whether it was her age or the fact that she had just come out of a coma about an hour ago that was putting her in a reflective mood...

However, she knew there was little time at the moment for that sort of things.  There were more important things to accomplish, so she finished up some paper work and then took her place at the bridge.

"Captain, we are being contaced by DS9," said Erica Fields, who was at the ops station.

"Put them on"

=/\= DS9 Security to Intrepid

=/\= This is the Intrepid, what seems to be the problem?

=/\= It looks like one of your crewmembers fell asleep over here and missed the call to return to the ship before your recent security changes.  He is back on his way to the ship now and will be wanting to board in a few minutes.

=/\= Understood.  Is there anything else?

=/\= Nothing further, DS9 out. =/\=

Slowly Spencer begins to go over all the numbers again, for what seems like the hundredth time making sure everything works out. “One small mistake, and we could wind up left hanging in different time again, and I can’t let that happen, I won’t let that happen again.?Spencer said to himself as he ran the numbers again. “must be really early right now I wonder how long I have been working at this?Spencer said getting up to get his coffee and then took a sip. “These assignments sure are tiring having to check over and over again, well might as well see what is going on on the bridge since if I run these numbers again I might lose my mind.?Spencer slowly finishes his coffee and places the cup on his desk and then heads to the turbolift en route to the bridge. The door to the bridge opens and slowly Spencer walks out to start his shift even earlier than he normally does. “Morning everyone?Spencer said as he walked clear of the turbolift.

Nick continues his work in Engineering working hard long and fast trying to get the ship underway and back home. After many long hours of work he decides to call it a day and head back to his quarters for awhile. After all he put in almost double the hours of the other engineers. Upon arrive to his quarters he locks the door and lays down for a long much needed rest.

The next day, Captain Venger was up early and on the Bridge.  She felt mostly caught up with everything that had happened while she was incapcitated in Sick Bay.  With any luck, they would be able to create the votex and return back to their time today.  Things had proceeded very well on the first day.

The only thing that had really seemed strange was Ensign Hawke.  He seemed a bit jumpy and on the edge.  With him, it was hard telling why.  So far he seemed normal as he reported in for his shift.

Keyes also arrived on the bridge soon after.  "How is everything progressing, Commander?"

<Keyes>

"That's good to hear.  Keep up the good work."

"How is everything progressing, Commander?"

"Everything is going well. I believe that the ship and crew are ready to go. Maybe a few last minute details, but we're ready to go home," John responded.

"That's good to hear. Keep up the good work."

"Thank you, sir," John said as he took his seat. He looked over a couple of padds and what not. Everything was in order. He felt that he was more ready than anyone on this ship to make it home. But, it was still nice to get to see some things in the past, even though nothing real eventful occured.

Breanna O'Malley was up and moving again about 5 hours after she had returned to her quarters.  For some reason, she couldn't sleep more than that.  It was probably the ship's current situation that prevented it and she was eager to get back to work.

She wanted to make sure everything went perfectly and there were still things she needed to take care of.  By the time alpha shift started, she had made a good amount of progress and felt confident in the Intrepid's ability to return home.

"Ensign Colus, you're just the person I wanted to see.  We've gotten a lot of work done and I think we are ready to try some simulations in the holodeck.  Think you are up to it?"

<Nick>

"Good, I'll meet you there in 10 minutes."  Breanna went ahead of the others to the holodeck to set up the program and situation.  She figured trying it out in the holodeck would be the best way for the to anticipate any problems they could have while actually trying to create the vortex.

=/\= We are about to run a holodeck simulation of the vortex and I was wondering if you would also like to participate

"Sure I'll head right there."

"Good, I'll meet you there in 10 minutes."

About 15 minutes later he shows up at the holodeck. "Sorry I'm late I had to get some root beer from the lounge. Lets get to work." Together they run several simulations. 6 to be exact. The first 2 simulations they had a major problem with phase variance and they blew up the ship. They got this corrected and ran a couple more. The next simulation they miscalculated there return point and they ended up back in time instead of forward. The 4th simulation they where sent forward in time but to the wrong time frame. They fixed this in the 5th and ran a 6th good measures. They had done it. He taps his comm badge.

It was half way through alpha shift when Lt. Cmdr. Keyes turned to Captain Venger and said, "I've just heard back from Engineering, Captain.  They feel that everything has been worked out and that we are ready to proceed."

"Very well.  Ensign Rye, contact DS9 and inform them that we will be leaving. Helm, once they confirm, take us out."  It didn't take very long before the Intrepid left the dock at DS9 and made it's way back to Nooma to initiate the vortex.  The engineering crews of both DS9 and the Intrepid had done a good job with the repairs, as well as possible considering the circumstances.  Only a few things couldn't be completely repaired due to sensitivity issues.

Once they reached the proper coordinates, everyone on the Bridge fell silent, feeling the gravity of the situation.  Most felt pretty confident in the skill of those who had worked on this project but, on the other hand, you just never knew how it would really work out.  Would they end up in their own time, somewhere else, stay where they are, or even destroying themselves by attempting this?

Captain Venger opened up a ship wide communication =/\= Attention everyone, this is the Captain.  We are about to create the vortex and attempt to return to our own time.  Prepare yourselfs for what is about to occur.  Venger out.

She turned to Ensign Colus, who came onto the Bridge as the ship arrived, and told him to begin.  Nick nodded and initiated the vortex...  It only took them a minute or two to pass through it.  As soon as they did, everyone waited for the results of their work, whether they were back or not.

Ensign Rye was the first to speak up, "Captain, we did it.  We are back, for the most part.  It looks like we are a couple hours later from when we left, but we are back."

"Can anyone else confirm this?" she questioned.  Harper, who was at the science station, confirmed his findings.  "Alright, go ahead and contact Starfleet.  Tell them we will be continuing to the starbase as planned and that a detailed report will be forthecoming."  Captain Venger sat back and wondered what journeys lay ahead for them now.
