I don't know if any of you have seen this show. I just watched it on the DOCU channel. The description of the show says " Looking @ an Autistic woman who believes her disablilty brings her closer to animals". When I first read this, before the show started, I was a little insulted that they were comparing an Autistic person to a cow. But once I watched the show I understood what they meant.
It was actually featuring Temple Grandin, and her ability to understand animal behaviours. It was quite fascinating how she could explain things so that the audience could understand life from her point of view. From light, sound and sensory issues to how she sees the world and her memories of her past. Like a movie on a big screen tv, in pictures(like snap shots) to feeling like other people were invisible to her.
What else I found fascinating was how she could feel and see what kinds of things distressed the cattle, that the others just simply over looked(not on purpose) just don't have the same way of looking at things. And, she spent a summer on her aunts farm and saw that they used this squeeze machine to give the animals their vaccinations. She noticed that when they got into this thing that held them in place while they got their shot, they almost looked relaxed. So she asked if she could go in it. She stayed in it for about 1/2 an hour and when she got out, she felt more calm and less anxiety. So SHE BUILT HER OWN(amazing), she said it gave her the feeling of being held, but in a controlled manner. Not like when your parents hold you. I'm guessing because she couldn't control how long she was held, how tight or loose she was held, etc... She also said she can't stand skin on skin, so she can't wear skirts and have her legs touching. Maybe same thing when being held by another person.
Anyways, I just thought I'd share because she really gives a good insight from an Autisitic persons point of view. And she does have an amazing ability to be able to relate to animals. So kewl.
