Over the summer at Kindercare, Kira learned all kinds of new and 'interesting' words such as weiner, nuts, diarrhea (oh yeah, I am not too happy about it) and she was saying them at the most inappropriate times, and the more I told her not to say them, the more she wanted to say them!!
So I devised a plan....I give her 10 minutes of "Potty Talk" every day, she can only do it at home and when the 10 minutes are up, that is all for the day...So far it has worked really well, she sets the timer for 10 minutes and has at it...
Poop Poop, Diarrhea, Weiner, Nuts, Pee, Farts
, she goes to town! We have our cousins who are typical 5 and 6 year olds staying with us until the end of the month, so they all 3 do the Potty Talk together - I really need to tape or film it, as it is completely hilarious!
There is a reason why I am sharing this, I got this idea from an article I read where a boy would not stop talking about a video game, so the therapist told his parents to set the timer for X amount of minutes (for Potty Talk, I chose 10 minutes but you could chose more for your child depending on the subject matter) and when the timer goes off, they need to stop.....this concept can be adapted and used for a number of behaviors and obessions..if it does not work at first, keep trying!
