Isaiah is going on his 5th year of HWT.  It is a great program.  He still has handwriting issues...but it may be more physiological related.  HWT did offer a nice way of giving boundaries and the how-tos for letter formation...yet Isaiah has a hard time keeping letters top to bottom or lower case letter from mid-way down.

He also hates pencils and crayons...loves markers....so I did find an alternative to practive handwriting at home....it is called the "Smart Start" series.  I bought the dry erase board (super slate) with a "smart start" marker...which is thin like a pencil.  It also is color coded........

"The smart start series is a NEW, logical and friendly approach to handwriting.  Please notice that the lines are color coded with blue to denote 'the sky' (sun and cloud) or top line...and green to denote grass (grass and flower) or bottom line.  The red dotted line is called 'the fence'.  This color coding allows children to quickly understand the concepts of lines and spaces.  You will find it helpful when instructing letter formation to say, 'Start at the sky (cloud and sun) and pull down to the ground (grass and flower)' or 'start at the fence and pull down to the ground.'  The color coding makes it easier for every child to be successful!"

I have found this to be a great system to use outside of HWT....and the dry erase board is less costly...and more fun for him

Desiree
