First off I'm going to say, that anyone who reads this please add in any information you have or personal experience you'd like to share. There was a suggestion by a member seeking more information on this subject.

Right now we are just at the beginning stages with my son. He's going to be 12 in October. For those of you who don't know he's been dx'd with Aspergers/ PDD~NOS. He's "high functioning" and extremely verbal. I put high functioning in quotes because I don't like using that term because I feel all kids on the spectrum on high functioning just at different levels. Know what I mean?

Anyhow, I'm the kind of person who is total open and not shy to talk about puberty, intercourse, etc...I only talk to my son about what's relevant to him at the time so he's prepared and doesn't wonder what's going on with his body. So far he's gotten errections, which at times he'll try to hide not so much cuz he's embarrassed, I think it just feels weird. Other times we've caught him playing with it(very seldom)but we said that's fine if you want to play with it just do it upstairs in your room in private.

I've also explained to him about "wet dreams" so he's not surprised when it happens. He knows he'll start growing hair in different areas. They've already started teaching Sex Ed in school, which he said he didn't really want to know about about that yet.

If the person who had the original question has anything more they'd like to know about please feel free to add you questions to this post. I'm sure there are many people in this group who have either gone through it or are going through it now. I don't know if I've answered any questions you had, but I'd check in later to see if I can help any further.

Kristin
