Intro To Beadwork Tools and Equipment:Wirework Tools: Pliers
To Buy From the Craft Store or The Hardware Store???
All beaders should own needle-nosed pliers, round-nose pliers, and wire cutters. Now lets get to the different types of tools and equipment for this type of beadworking.
1]Flush Cutters
These are used to trim eyepins, headpins, and beading wire. They are called flush cutters because they create perfectly flush ends. Flush cutters come in several sizes for the several sizes of wire.
2]Chain~Nose Pliers
These pliers are used for closing chain links. You can use needle nose pliers for this task also but chain~nose pliers have a more robust tip.
3]Round~Nose Pliers
These pliers are best used to bend the wire into loops. These too also come in different sizes so you can make your loops the size that you want.
4] Needle~Nosed Pliers
I think that I use these pliers more than any of the other types of plier that I have. Oh yeah and you can also buy them with wire cutters built into them. These pliers are used for attaching clasps, jump rings, and my favorite use crimping crimp beads. The best thing about these pliers is you dont have to spend alot just make sure to get a pair with a good tip on them.
5] Crimping Pliers
These specialist pliers curl and flatten crimp beads (something that you can do with needle nose pliers). Crimping pliers curve the crimp bead instead of completely flatening it.
6] Flat~Nose Pliers
These pliers are completely flat on their inside edge. They are useful for grabbing wire, they too are also useful for crimping crimp beads. They also come in many different nose widths.
Above all I am not picky when it comes to my equipment. Some of these pliers I have actually gotten out of my husbands tool bag. We'll keep that one between us. Bottom line you do not really have to go to a craft store to get these tools unless you want the best or are picky about the equipment you use. Sorry Mom but I think your cheapness rubbed off on me. Dollar Store!!!
