Lunar Fertility
by K.D. Spitzer From 1998 Moon Sign Book by Llewellyn
Since antiquity, the Moon has been associated with women and femininity; it has also been the symbol of fertility throughout the animal world. Of course, the effect of the Moon on menustration is such an ingrained idea that most languages call the process, in part or in full, by the term for the Moon: Moon madness, Moon change, Moon sickness, time of the Moon, or just Moon.
Astrologers have long known of a specific lunar influence on conception, contraception, and the determination of gender in humans. It is possible to astrologically calculate the maximum period of fertility in a woman's cycle. Of course, it must be a woman's natural cycle and not one set artificially by oral contraceptives.
If a regular menstrual cycle is established, a woman is fertile during the natural ovarian fertility cycle, which accounts for 30 percent of all pregnancies. A woman also experiences maximum fertility each month at the same time as her natal lunar phase, regardless of where this falls in her menstrul cycle. This is accurate 97 percent of the time. In 1970, fifteen scientists, doctors, and technicians examined the records of 1,252 women who used astrological birth control charts for at least one year. The percentage of women who did not get pregnant was 97.7 percent. This test has been duplicated with the same superior results.
A woman's natural lunar phase is determined by the angle between the Sun and Moon at the moment of her birth. Calculations are made using the date, time and place of birth and result in a degree somewhere between 0 and 360 degrees. This can be conveniently done by an astrological computer program. If the woman has moved away from her place of birth, a relocation chart must be done, and calculations will be based on the longitude and latitude of the current residence. This is especially important if contraception is the goal!
Lunar Contraception
A woman born on June 30, 1950, has the Moon in Capricorn, one day past a Full Moon at 198 degrees. (More people are born at the Full Moon than any other phase.) Every lunar month the Moon returns to this degree and the computerized astrology program that determind the natal lunar phase can also project the days and times that the Moon will cyclically return there.
Because sperm (female producing sperm) can live for three days, the period of fertility starts three days before this moment and lasts for another day afterward, for a maximum of four fertile days. It is a simple matter to count back exactly seventy-two hours from the exact time of the natal lunar degree for the beginning of the fertile period and then to count forward twenty-four hours from the exact time to complete it. The maximum fertile time each month can be calculated reliably with the help of the Lady Moon and used for conception and contraception. Using autosuggestion techniques, it is possible to synchronize the hormonally fertile time with the lunar fertile phase. While it is of course true that men are always fertile, some preliminary testing shows that thier sperm count is significantly higher at thier own lunar phase.
Determining Sex
The Moon can also aid in determining the sex of the child. Many astrologers differ over how. Some examine the gender of the father's natal Moon, not to mention the gender of the rising sign, the sign on the cusp of the Fifth House, and some other indicators in the mother's chart. This will help topoint out any fertility problems.
All of them agree, however, and have since the ancient Babylonian and Sumerians, that the gender of the zodiac sign the Moon is passing through at the moment of conception pure and simply determines the gender of the baby. Thus if the Moon is in Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, or Aquarius at conceotion, then the baby will be a boy, and it will be a girl if the Moon is in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn or Pisces. The gender of the signs alternate around the zodiac. Preliminary tests indicate that the Moon influences the acidity/alkalinity of the womb, which of course determines which sperm (male- or female-producing) reach the desired goal.
So, generally speaking, if you wish to get pregnant, you have a good chance of doing so during your natal lunar fertility phase. Because of the Moon's influence, this cyclic measurement marks the reaffirmation of one's psychic roots, not to mention one's social capacity for personal relationships, of which sex is an extension. A woman's subconcious urge to reproduce correlates to this time frame.
