The apparent freedom of
The knowledge he had gained,
Left him alone and friendless,
His itellect making him vain.
The fountain of information
That he wielded like a knife
Cut out every possibility
Of sharing his feelings or his life.
"What a waste of a brilliant mind,"
They said, behind his back,
"A heartless encyclopedia,
The perfect egomaniac."
When love finally found him,
Doddering and alone,
His years of reflecting
Brought reality home.
He was more than ready
To be humble and kind,
For his heart had tasted victory
Over his ego and his mind.
