Hen lays giant egg for Easter

The 200g egg, which is more than three times the usual weight, appeared at Rachel Rivers' hen house in Wiltshire.

Rachel explained that hens which are fed well and have a good diet may help the birds lay larger than usual eggs.

She said: "A chicken jumped on the egg and smashed it while we were holding it. It had three yolks and we used it for a tasty Easter omelette."

The bird which produced the whopper egg was a free range Columbian Blacktail hen which is fed on a diet of rich cereal and produces organic eggs for a supermarket.
